Help! BOV sounds?

Does anyone know which BOV stutters
(sounds like a old school asteroid laser game)
when it blows-off instead of the psssf sound?
I have heard it on a friends 96 Civic with the
Greddy turbo kit and he claims that it's the
Greddy Type-S BOV. Is this true? b/c I have
heard the same BOV on a Eclipse and makes
that psssf sound.

Hi,
I posted a question like this a few weeks ago. You mean the BOV that sounds like a Bird Chirping?

If it is then i Think i was told that it is the Greddy Type-S BOV. Cant do a search at the moment coz an error comes up saying 'Sorry. The search function has been disabled by the administrator.'

oh well.

Yeah that's the Greddy Type-S, my friend has it on his '99 Si and it sounds like a bird chirping. It's real minute and you can't really hear it from outside the car.

No matter how cool that sounds (and yes, I know it sounds rad), you don't want it. That sound is called compressor surge. It's actually bad for your turbo, and it is the turbo making the noise. Tell your friends to open their blow off valve more.

You shouldn't even be able to hear your blow off valve when it is functioning correctly. If you hear anything more than a hard wooosh sound, then you still have room to open the fucker.

How do u adjust the bov? Just by listening to the sound?

And why is the turbo making that noise when the bov isn't opened enough?

If a blow off valve sounds like a cat getting stepped on, it is nowhere near where it should be. Ideally, you shouldn't be able to hear any whistle sounds...it should just be a big rush of air, unobstructed. A blowoff valve is there to prevent compressor surge, and that chatty sound you here is compressor surge...so open it up.

loosen your bov with the adjusting bolt it has on it
make sure it doesnt stall at idle, or let out air at idle (bit hard to hear though).... or stall when u let off the accelerator... dont adjust too much.. adjust until u get a clean kshhh sound
