Question How to determine appropriate fmu for turbo application?

Ok, I know that the Vortech FMU's come in several setups, 6:1, 8:1, 12:1, etc. It seems like everyone out there is just buying the 12:1. How do you determine what is the appropriate unit for your setup?

And, just to make sure that I understand it correctly, the FMU will basically just raise the fuel pressure, 6psi for every lb of boost that it sees (or 8, 12, etc.).

You buy a standalone, properly sized injectors and at 1:1 FPR.

I recommend spend a few more dollars (it really comes out to just that much over S/V-AFC, injectors, FMU) and getting a standalone such as Hondata. You'll be able to tune much better/more precisely and get the most power from your engine, in the best manner for your car.

When I actually get around to going turbo, I only plan to run 6-8psi and this is my daily driver, not a track car.

I looked at the Hondata, but I believe that i would need the 4B which was somewhat expensive and I still have to pay someone to tune it properly (of course I would also have to pay to tune a V-AFC). I also wasn't big on the idea of having to get a odb-1 wiring harness for my engine to use the hondata.

Actually I just looked at the page again. Looks like I could get away with either the 2B or 3B, and an authorized hondata dealer/tuner is about an hour or so away.

Also, if I go back to odb-1 to use the hondata, isn't it going to make it just that much more difficult to pass emissions? Or am I confusing things there?

I'm still trying to understand all of the pieces involved with fuel management. Seems like it is more complicated than understanding the turbo itself

your right , the turbo is really the easy part,
Fuel management is where it gets alittle difficult.
Good Luck.

It is illegal to use an OBD I computer in an OBDII car. Although, it depends on how they do you emissions check. If they don't check the diagnostics and just sniff the pipe you should be fine with swaping computers. You would have a lot better chance passing if you are tuned with hondata than an FMU setup.
