the only mod i have for my fuelsystem is an fmu, and for some reason when im at idle my car is running really rich, and its pretty rich up until 2psi where the engines combustion can keep up with the fuel delivery.
so how would my car be rich when the fmu only works under boost?
is there some way i can make it leaner, not quite as lean as stock but leaner. without using some sort of aftermarket controller, im just talking about something on the engine i can tune a bit.
mainly because, it has a strong smell and its puffing a bit of black out the exhaust and i have a huge buildup of carbon in my muffler, and i think its wrecking my muffler, changing the sound and just making it look like crap.
If I remember correctly you were running larger injectors than stock. You can either swap out you stock injectors or get a variable FPR and lower your Static fuel pressure well below stock. I'd run the stock injectors.

on that fmu you should be able to control the static fuel pressure of the rail, however I havent owned a fmu, but ive seen few of them and if i remember correctly you can change the static fuel pressure to the rail, and from that base pressure is were the fmu takes over raising the pressure on its different ratio plates (ie 12:1 14:1) if that dosent work go back to your factory injectors like boostedrex said.
i have stock injectors.... stock everything except for fmu
and my fmu doesn't have ratio diaphrams, it just has a screw type adjuster that raises the ratio and lowers it. and thats the part that the vacuum hooks up to.
it doesn't sound like it's a rising rate fpr. it's rising the fp even at idle. check all vacuum lines because once i had messed with my cruise control vacuum lines leading to the intake manifold and my car instantly started running rich and smelling at idle. ?

messed up fpr
if you had a fuel pressure guage it would be alot easier to diagnose your problem, autometer sells a basic fuel pressure guage for about $35-40 or you could get the electric fuel pressure guage for about $90.
With that guage you could see how much pressure is on the rail during any situation. first you would hook up the guage somewhere close to the fuel rail before the pressure regulator.
second start up your car and note the fuel pressure on the guage.
Then remove the vacume line from the pressure regulator and take note of the pressure,(note- your car should hesitate and/or try to die once you remove the vaccume line)
there should be about 10-15lbs difference between the pressures, if there is not your problem may be your pressure regulator, the diaphram may be sticking and not letting the fuel pressure to fall when the car is at idle, causing the car to run rich, but once you start boosting the diaphram works with the added manifold pressure, raising the fuel pressure.
Question - what fuel pump are you running in your car
