How to seal threaded connections?

All of the connections on my oil and return line are threaded. I know plumbers use a couple layers of teflon tape...but is there some kind of compound(out of a tube) I can use along with the tape to ensure an oil tight connection? Or is there something else I can do to make sure that it doesn't leak at the threads??

wel...teflon tape is reallly good shit, you can actually get some liquid teflon tape that never really "sets up" or dries..it works very well to. I think its made by Loctite but I'm not sure.
