how to use a msd btm

can someone please give me a detailed explaination on how to use a btm...

right after i set it up and retard to the point where detonation is not heard do i leave it like this???

what will happen when i turn the car on and at idle???

will the ignition be retarded...or only when it senses boost???

what about different psi's.....like if i retarded it at 9 psi 3 clicks..

but at 5 psi it doesn't need 3 clicks but it needs 1 click do i have to change it manually as my boost climbs or will it do it on it's own???

The BTM should only retard timing while under boost. Having it set at .75 or 1 or 1.5 degrees per psi of boost should be sufficient. I would say that 1.5 should be more than plenty! After about 11.4 psi of boost on a Honda it generally doesn't help any more to retard timing. However, I would say that you should retard it enough so you don't have detonation. Make sure your timing is set at stock while at idle. What's the stock setting? Its like 16 degrees BTDC or something right? That's what mine is set at using a digital timing light/gun/meter.
