Question I found a turbo, will it work?

I found a turbo, this boy is selling it to me for 300$ But i dont know if it will fit. It is coming off a 88 ford thunderbird turbo coupe. I looked it up and it is called a , 1H1RHB-52 turbo with integral waste gate. I don't know what that means but i read it online. He is giving me everything i want. The car runs but i couldn't rev it past 3000 rpm?????? the boost never got up to past 5 psi. I dont think it has a blowoff valve, or maybe it never got up enough to do it? It made this weird electric motor sound instead. I didnt spot an intercooler either... Or not where i thought it would be.

Sorry, forgot to mention i have a 94 civic with d15b7

sounds shady, if you wanna get a used turbo, try for a 15g of a mitsu, or something like a t-25. keep in mind that these turbos you're gonna find off of firebirds, mitsus, etc. will usually be smaller turbos that will spool faster than say, a T3/T4. check for shaft play and coking (oil cooked onto the turbo's inside) when getting a used turbo.

I thought that the t-bird's had a garrett T3? Oh well... Anyways, that doesn't sound like a very good deal. $300 for a used turbo? You can find one for under $200 on ebay. Also whenever you buy a used turbo, be sure to factor in the cost of rebuilding it.

T3 thunderbird turbo

If that turbo is in good condition, no shaft play etc. It wouldnt be a horible deal, however if it needs rebuilding, you could definetly find better deals out there. That turbo would be great for that motor, I use to have that same turbo on my motor, and let me tell you 15psi with that turbo, will turn your car into a damn rocket, It spools quick, and is good for up to 300hp. however I would recomend a external wastegate, the internal wastegate on that turbo is not that good over the factory setting, plus that wastegate makes mounting that turbo kind of hard.

My personal best with that turbo was a 13.6@113mph I could have gotten a better time with some tunning and better tires.

I paid 175.00 for my turbo from the junk yard, 2 years ago, and about another 40.00 to rebuild it.
If you do decide to buy that turbo, If the guy selling it will let you have the exhaust manifold, Ill buy it off of you for $40-50.00, that will at least help you recoup some of your investment.

good luck..
Laters...

Its not a 1H1, its an IHI RHB5. The Turbocoupes had a Garret T3 in some form up until I think '87 when they switched to the IHI(and '88 was the last year of the TC). Its smaller than the T3 so it doesnt flow as well, but it will spool quick. It should be a good turbo for what you want. With all that said, DONT buy it. $300 is too much unless it is practically new. I bought an RHB5 off a Subaru from a junkyard for $50 and its in great shape.

Question

I think I'll just offer him 100$ for the turbo and whatever else I need off of it. You say it has an internal wastegate? What about the blowoff valve? Does that matter?
