This all refers to a 99 gsr GReddy Turbo kit. TD05- 18G Already installed
Specs:
Non intercooled (intercooler comming in the mail soon)
No BOV (got the hks super sequential, but want somehting totally quiet)
Pretty much the bolt on kit that greddy gives you direct.
NGK 6 series plugs gapped to .030 Is this correct?????
Autometer electric oil pressure- dont know where to put the gauge inside the car
Autometer boost gauge- same situation as the oil pressure gauge
Both are the ultra light series i donno if that makes a difference in quality- but i heard autometer sucks.
I just bought a crappy gauge pod that holds the 52mm gauges in the dash. Do all these pods things cover the temperature and gas meters? Or did i get a crappy aftermarket POS?
The other thing is, i need ideas on where else to put these gauges. I was thinking right below the radio, i was goin to custom fit them. And how did you guys wire the boost gauge and what t-fitting you need and accessories for it?
Last, I notice a huge power increase between full boost and about 6k rpms. Am i noticing a power loss due to the heat from being non intercooled? Or is the turbo not putting enough output to produce at the higher rpms? 6k is when vtec kicks in since i put in the p73 (itr ecu) and have the itr cams in. Maybe thats screwing things up?
PLEASE DONT TELL ME I NEED TUNING, i already understand that, and i will do it as soon as the intercooler is in and the gauges are installed. Thank you

Power increase or power loss?
First you say you notice a huge increase, then you ask if the power loss is due to the heat????
There is no mention of tuning, what are you using?? fmu? Greddy blue/black box? anything? Nothing????

Looks like you have answered your own question.

If you have a manual tranny you are going to fuck up your compressor wheel.
I called greddy and asked them if i had to run a BOV and they said no there is nothing to worry about and it wont hurt the turbo. Thats what they said and im not sure if thats correct, but they are the professionals so i would think they are correct. But i already got a BOV i will install as soon as the intercooler comes in this week.

Im using the Greddy Blue box. I notice the nice push from the turbo between 3500-6k rpms and after 6 i dont feel much of a push.
Mods: APC rear window sticker, short ram intake, weight reduction (no hubcaps or hula dancer on dash)

I will agree that they are the professionals, but when you let off of the throttle, all of the excess pressure in the piping has only one place to go...back through the turbo.

Sounds like it's a tuning issue, either too rich or too lean...
Greddy is the only company that I know of that sells a kit without a BOV, they do so only to keep the cost down.....with that said..I would never run without one....like dsrspwr said...
that pressure has to go somewhere....surging back into the compressor isn't a place that I want it. It puts added stress on the bearings of the turbo and in some cases can damage the shaft...There is a reason why car manufactures run them on production vehicles...
It would be real interesting to see the longevity of a greddy kit, a kit that was installed on one car and ran until it crapped out....the problem is almost every person that I've known thats owned a greddy kit never kept it until that happend, they either sell it for a larger turbo capable of more power or sell the car....I think anybody who has owned a greddy kit from start to finnish had the kit for the little added power that it provides and never really pushed the car hard....(keeping it at 5.5psi setting)
