intercooler yes or no?

what are the dis- and advantages of a intercooler?
I've got a stock b16a2 and i want 7or8psi of boost. i have heard that a ic saves the motor from detonating because of the lower intake temperature. but i've also heard the opposite, so who can tell me the truth?

I'll be frank about it ..

Get an intercooler, or don't bother going turbo.

intercooler is vital, you NEED ONE. Even if its a small one that heat-soaks quickly thats better than nothing.

you should get one.
the dissadvantages are that it will take a lil extra time to do your turbo install and it will be more expensive since you have to buy an intercooler and extra pipes. but well worth it IMO.

Definitely get an FMIC! My friend had one on his Si turbo. He was only pushing 6.5psi. From what he said it made a world of difference when on the dyno. Actually he's here on the board... uoboarder. He started a thread in the Turbo Forum about Required Reading for Turbo Noobs. He's taught me a few things about turbos.

Hey TeggyDC2girl!!

Good to see you here on the board! Yeah... listen to this girl fellas. She's a smart cookie! She may not post much or post often, but she's usually got something good to say.

IMO... Use a FMIC regardless of how little boost you're using.

There is no disadvantage of runing an intercooler. Like others have said, it lowers your intake temp, which reduces the chance of detontation. Cooler charge equals more dense charge which makes more power.
If you don't run an intercooler on your set-up your going to have a hard time preventing detonation. The high static compression plus boost isn't going to be very happy

you definately want to use the highest octane availible to prevent detonation, especially since youre going FI.

Just get a large intercooler that fits the nose of your car. Oh, and run that 98 octane fuel.
