I have a 96 LX and I am thinkin about goin turbo in the future. Which kit would be the biggest performance upgrade, and which kits are good value for the cash?
GReddy. Hands down. The SOHC GReddy kit is perhaps the best kit on the market for the SOHC. I would personally go with none other in a daily driven street car SOHC.
I am, but only for DOHC motors. The GReddy/Mitsubishi TD04H turbo is so perfectly matched to that SOHC motor, you can't beat it. When I had my SOHC GReddy turbo, I was kicking the crap out of Rev Hard SOHC's on the street. For a street driven SOHC Honda, GReddy owns. For DOHC street driven, or track cars, Rev Hard is the shit...
So you think the Greddy kit is wicked for SOHC and the RevHard kit is wicked for DOHC.
You know, the whole talk about F-MAX and RevHArd, I have a SOHC and was making the point that F-MAX is better for the SOHC.
Ok, I hate openning up another can of worms, but why do you think the Greddy kit is better for the F-MAX kit, besides the fact that it comes with new injectors and FMU.
i have gReddy kit and very satisfied, i've boosted 10 lbs on stock internals with no problems, pulls good and can never be anymore happier. I've raced my friend's civic with GSR and revhard kit, he can barely leave me, he's boosting only 6 lbs though, from 1st to end of 3rd im sniffing his ass all the way, but after that he pretty much leaves me, but thats like after 100mph

Sorry pic is so big, my GF can't shrink it cuz she says that you can't use HTML here.
for SOHC like matt said greddy is great b/c you will have less problems.. but more then likely you will change your motor guaranteed b/c you will want more power.. that is why i said rev hard b/c all you need to do is change the manifold... good luck..
GReddy really did a good job matching that TD04H to the D16 motors. The design quality and manufacturing of the kit is top notch. For an SOHC motor, there is no better kit for it, it is perfectly matched...
i am very happy w/ my greddy kit boosting 7psi right now and it pulls great spools fast. couldnt be happier though i admit as soon as my engine is built up i will end up upgrading turbos....

What about the apexi turbo kit for the sohc???
That is the kit I am shooting for but sure it might me a little pricy but I know where I can get the whole thing for about 3000 (with the big a$$ gt-spec intercooler) I have seen a guys set up with this kit and its freakin awsome. Ball bearing turbo spools so much faster. just my 2 cents.

Waste of money. Here's why: The ball bearing turbo that you are paying a lot of money for will not make a difference. If we were talking about a T88 vs a ball bearing T88...then yeah, but these turbos that go on the SOHC are so small, they spool up fast as shit anyway. You don't need a ball bearing turbo that size...it already spools up fast as hell. Also, that A'pex Skyline or Silvia core intercooler, however fucking awesome it may look, is NOT matched to that turbocharger. The turbo that comes with the kit does not flow enough cfm to fill that intercooler effectively, and you will suffer from pressure drop.
Also, you just can't beat the GReddy price ($1490 - me), and the intercooler is a little over $600 I think, so you are paying just over $2000. With a budget of $3500, you can have all of your bases covered, turbo, intercooler, ignition, fuel, and tuning. You can't go wrong.
Hey sup Mat, if you decide to drop in that d16 motor, that'll make my day =). Hey, quick question, how many lbs did you boost your coupe when you had the d16 and sohc motor? and what did you do you achieve that? Im, talking about fuel and ignition wise. ANd was your motor stock? Any headgasket or rebuild for bottom end? I have the GReddy Blue box which provides ample fuel up to about 9lbs, my A/F goes to stoich at 9. My motor craves boost soo much, but im a lil hestitant to boost it higher than that. I get no detonation at 8lbs so i know the lil d series motor can handle more. It's the most under rated motor in the import scene, hence my username =) O, BTW, i got stock injectors, fuel pump, and ignition.
