It is hard to say what they were talking about. They were probably refering to the bottomend. Either a rod broke or a piston land crushed or cylinder sleeve breached. There are several things that would cause this to happen. To much power for the rod to handle or to much pressure on a piston. Normally heat has a lot to do with it. After the metal is heated extremely hot and cools it becomes brittle and fatiged. Stress cracks can appear and finally it brakes under load. Extreme heat normally comes from lack of the proper a/f ratio. Or simply from lack of cooling.
