Exclamation List every/all reasons an installed turbo will not boost!

I've lost boost

I have greddy turbo, stock boost, internal wastegate

Here is everything done so far to try and regain boost :

Fixed 2 pre-turbo exhaust leaks and 1 post, replaced gasket.
replaced 2 bolts that came off of exhaust manifold
checked vacuum lines
boost gauge reads vacuum and goes to 0 psi under WOT
BOV gives quiet pssst sound after full WOT to redline
blew air into wastegate and the actuator arm moved to the right
checked for turbo spin and no shaft play - 3 people confirmed OK
replaced old worn couplers from IC couplers with brand new ones

I've taken it to 3 different mechanics, none of them can figure out why I'm not boosting... here is what I'm planning to check for soon.

Things to do :

Blow air into IC pipes and get some soapy water to look for leaks
submerge IC into water with the ends capped
check for a clogged CAT

its your turn to add things to do....

it's more like the boost gods have opposed me

I got a ? for you guys... on the turbine itself there are 2 wheels, come to think of it, i've only checked the air in wheel or the "compressor wheel" and not the "turbine wheel" . is there a easy way to check to make sure that it is fully functional.. i was under the impression that if one spun the other by default is spinning.

another thing on the to do list eh?

if the one in the compressor spins is cause the one in the turbine is spinning it

you have a weird probelem....the only thing i thought of was the connector to the fmic....check your plugs....maybe they don't fire right after the boost starts to build...check your fual pressure too........maybe right after the turbo starts to spin and boost starts to build up one of the things I listed above malfunctions or stops working at all............

Ok, Today I disconnected the vacuum hose from the internal wastegate to see if I would get infinite boost.. but I didnt get any, so at least I know its not the wastegate opening for some odd reason...

I'm getting more and more positive its a leak in the IC piping, so tomorrow is the official day for leak down test, wish me luck!

Also, is it possible to have 0 psi with a clogged cat? I'm sure I have a somewhat clogged cat, but I wasn't sure if that would actually cause a no boost situation.... get back to me!

PEACE!

Well, todays test was to no avail... IC pipe seem not to be leaking...

Wednsday I remove Intercooler and run a straight pipe to see if its that or not.

Other ideas?

I helped turbocharged my friends integra and for some reason his car didn't get any boost without the missing link. After it was installed, the car finally started boosting. Check you missing link if you have one. That's the only thing that I can think of.

One question,....when you are at WOT does the motor feel like it is struggling?

Sounds like a wastegate issue to me. Usually boost leaks will result in reduced boost, not no boost at all. What's your vacuum reading at idle, and what does your boost gauge read as you accelerate?

Well, i thought so too, but anyway it reads about 20 VAC at idle and then goes to 0 psi at WOT Will find out tomorrow about the IC, as I was delayed today.. will keep you all posted, thanks for input!

Just removed IC and put a pipe, still no boost...

I'm guessing it is 1 of 2 things...

1) BAD Turbo

2) Wastegate is somehow stuck open even though its in the closed position..

HELP?

Have you checked you BOV. A faulty seal around the opening in the BOV could let boost out. Do you have a gasket in between the flange and the piping? My buddy had a GReddy Type S. The tension on the BOV was so loose that it was letting boost out. So we tightened it up and boost was there. Another guy had a bad BOV in that the BOV didn't seal up really well onto the flange on the piping.

Are you postive your exhaust manifold isn't leaking? Buy a new exhaust gasket and torque it down to spec, unless you just put in a new gasket. Also, make sure that between the turbo and the manifold is sealing perfectly. Idle the motor and take a can off brake cleaner, spray it all around the seals on exhaust manifold, this helps to identify any leaks. And it wouldn't hurt to try a different boost gauge. If none of this works, just tell me and I will continue down the list of possibilities.

I'm about ready to sell the whole damn kit and go all motor

the BOV is welded on pretty good, I will double check it though, It still makes a slight Pssst sound though, which led me to believe it is AOK.

BOV picture :

I do have a very small leak by the manifold, It stopped from leaking for a few days, but now it is leaking again.. however I don't think it's that, because even when it wasn't leaking, it still didn't boost, and the compressor wheel spins freely...

I have a question regarding the wastegate though... the is it possible that the actuator arm is holding the flapper to the wastegate closed, but inside its open?
