I guess.
But, IIRC, isn't Blu-Ray (and HD DVD for that matter) getting off to a faster start than DVD did? Not to mention the price drops on Blu-Ray and HD DVD are coming much faster than they did for DVD.
Lastly, aren't the prices on HDTV's dropping dramatically? I think it's very far fetched for him to 'assume' that consumers aren't 'impressed' with the leap from 480p to 1080i/p. In fact, when I have friends over, they are very impressed with the quality of 1080p, many of them now looking into good sets and players for themselves.
I think this is pretty bogus, and a poor attempt to down play the significance (from a consumer standpoint) of high definition entertainment, and it's entirely too drenched in "well I can't afford it, so I assume everyone else can't either".
Not to mention he ignores the fact that it took around 3 years for DVD to reach a price drop to $300, which HD DVD is already at, and Blu-Ray is quickly approaching. Then he ignores that it took 1year to sell 1 Million DVD players. Blu-Ray and HD DVD sold 1 Million players in under a year, and there are currently around 3.7 Million Blu-Ray capable players in consumers homes. Funny how he didn't mention those things...
