Actually, Best Buy will continue to stock and support HD DVD, they will simply RECOMMEND Blu-Ray as the format of preference. This means no more HD DVD displays, no more HD DVD promo's in their weekend flyers, etc.

you are correct.
anyway i just ordered by HD-DVd Player, A35 from Amazon for $230. Bestbuy had a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal in the store. got Transformers from amazon and King Kong.
will pick up blu-ray player when it reaches $200 mark with profile 2.0 and bitstream audio with option analog out.

Why not just pick up a PS3 as your Blu-Ray player?
Honestly, I think $230 is too much to buy an HD DVD player for. I bet if you would have waited say, 3 months? You could have easily picked up the same player for under $200. I expect fire sales quite soon. All of these events will cause chain reactions, and eventually Toshiba WILL pull the plug. I think it'll happen this year, actually.
Originally I thought it would be 2009, but after they aired an HD DVD ad on the superbowl in Standard Definition, I can't help but think Toshiba isn't taking this seriously any more.

already have a PS3 in the house, wanted more of a stand alone player.
i could have picked up the A30 for $150, but i wanted the analog audio for my AVR, and bitstream for later. plus i have 30 day price protection.
i still think there is some life left in HD. say $99, upconversion with hd-dvd capabilities and paramount and Uni relase all movies on combo disk for same price as current dvd or $5 margin.
as much as we argue, i dont really care if sony or hd-dvd wins. what i liked about hd-dvd is the profile is locked, hardware is reliable, and price is affordable. if sony can do the above, then i dont care. its just sony is to implusive on pushing formats down people's throat that i dont like.

It still wont' be as effective as linear PCM uncompressed used on Blu-Ray discs
either way I picked up an xbox hd-dvd addon with 18 movies for only 120 shipped...can't beat that

Right.
Pushing it down your throat. Because they obviously MADE you buy all their formats, right? Please give me one example, and I'll gladly prove you wrong.
HD DVD will be done by years end, Universal and Paramount will be back to Blu-Ray before the end of 2008.
Also, since when is HD DVD hardware more 'reliable' than Blu-Ray hardware? WTF? Making shit up now, are we?

Good thing you don't take Sony negativity personally...
Want an example of pushing a technology down someone's throat? Look no further than your favorite next-gen console.
As far as reliability, I'm going to go ahead and guess he is talking about how Blu-ray players continue to evolve and 'early adopters' may at some point be screwed over.

Really? They shoved it down my throat?
Didn't know I was forced to buy a PS3. Geeze.
I mean, it's not like it doesn't serve a great purpose that benefits the system by adding more storage space for games or anything. [/sarcasm]
Idiots.
