Plasma vs LCD??

What are the differences of the two? And, any recommendations?

I don't know much about TV's but the lcd TV"s i've seen 40+inches seem to be around 16 inches thick. In my opinion, they're a much better deal than plasma TV's because you can get a 50 inch sony HDTV LCD for under 3500. Although the picture won't be as good as the plasma, it'll still be better than most other stuff on the market. Plus an added benefit to an LCD is that they have a longer life span than a plasma: . But I think mike wrote a review on the Sony Grand Wega which is a HD LCD TV. Check this one out, and they have more .

This is correct. I WOULD BUY LCD OVER PLASMA ANY DAY! This is mainly because plasmas only last a couple of years. LCD is 'next big thing' in TVs if you ask me.

They just need to get ghosting delay down in images and a little more contrast. They are a good buy and I kinda like them better than the RPTV's. I agree they look great , but plasma does own it without the price worries.... I sat there and looked back and forth at some plasma's , the lcd at direct view was getting blown away by plasma's from far and an angle.

Plasma might blow-out early , who knows , the only thing that freaks me is that there are a lot of unknown companies doing things with who knows what. Then when you go for brand-name stuff it gets very exspensive.

The LCD's from sony have tons of anti-glare properties which really makes the TV usable at all times of the day without glare annoyances or special lighting to not promote glare. Also the rptv's have some nice anti-glare setups too.

It seems to me all the plasma's are more or less art , than function. Nice little picture frame to watch. With a simple and very relfective glass cover...(none are glass , its just how it seems)

Also plasma tech is kinda old , so the video processors and what not used with it seem to give a lot of blocking in quick moving video scenes. They need to dust all the old plasma units and come out with a more efficient cheap one , with a better video proccessor and better anti-glare screens.

Also look for DLP TV technology from samsung and soon others.

I don't know if you guys have any more knowledge than me on this topic, which im sure you do, but my buddy is a sales rep at an electronics store here, and he said that the plasma screens they have for their floors model run whenever theyre open, and have been going strong for a couple years now.. He said the whole thing about plasma screens wearing out is nothing but a rumor with no backing... i dont know myself though.

I have heard it from a fair number of credible sources. Otherwise I would be less likely to believe if it wasn't people/sources that I trusted.

Plasma Tv's only last 3000 Hours on Average.

LCD is a better choice, they last as long as a tube Tv.
The Sony XBR series is very good.

Ghosting is still a major issue on my LCDs. Plasma has superior picture quality, but is more spendy. Greddy_V6, we need to know what your price range is and your setup, and what size you are looking at the make good recommendations.

lcd vs. plasma

i actually work in the entertainment dept @ circuit city. altho im no expert (tho i should be) ... it pretty much goes like this. if you are comparing flat-panel lcds vs flat-panel plasmas and both are hd ready then the lcd WILL have a better picture. plus the plasmas picture tends to pixelate(sp?) with fast moving images i.e. such as in a football game or like any fast moving image. and plus it depends what size you are looking for. flat panel lcds only come up to 30''in size. if you want something larger then the only option you have is the plasma .... now they also have lcd PROJECTIONS which are larger than 30in but they aren't flat panels and yes their prices are considerably lower than any plasma. if ur looking at mounting it on a wall and looks really matter to you i would recommend a lcd flat-panel if u dont care about mounting it on the wall then just buy a lcd projection they still look really nice.
cant go wrong either way.
oh and also yeah the life on the plasmas isnt supposed to be very good either, i dont know about it being only for a couple of years tho .... more like 5-7 years.

Your talking about LCD Projection but straight LCD only goes up to 42inch from what I've heard. And they are actually more expensive then plasma's, Just as thin, last 10,000 hours longer, better picture IMO (they are fixing the ghosting) a 36inch Sharp will run you about 6 grand so 42 will be very expensive. LCD projo is a good compromise though if you pick the right one. Best picture I've ever seen was off of a Toshiba LCD, it blew away the plasma's next to it.

alright, a newbie to the tv's etc but this is what i heard, LCD's are alot quieter and will cause alot less heat...they last longer...and shiet, you can use your computer or watch TV...

if you want to do video games, go for DLP...it can handle all the video games graphics or something like that...

correct me if i'm wrong...

Remember not to judge a tv by what you see at the store. A lot of times stores like bestbuy (who mainly sell refurbished junk) don't have the premium connections needed in order to see a difference between pictures. Make sure to check the connections yourself and try to take home a tv to see what it looks like in your environment.

My little advice is to just pickup a 42" toshiba 42h83 rptv...rptv's have come a long way and are the best bang for buck. Onecall.com (authorized dealer) has them for $1250ish SHIPPED to your doorstep. http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_18399.htm

Good luck on your decision.

if i had a 35" Sony WEGA, what size LCD do i need 2 compare? i know a 35" LCD is alot smaller in height, so i'm lookin' 4 a comparable size; in other words what LCD size has the same height as the tube? i used 2 now the math, but i haven't been in school in over a decade

somebody told me that 1 of the flat panels would shatter if you layed it down like a table. true? & which 1?
