down eventually. since HDDVD has finally flopped, more manufactures are going to start making Blu-Ray players. but that might not happen for a few months, so current models may go up in price a bit since they know people will pay the price since its only blu-ray left. i would say just ride it out, wait for more manufactures to flood the market with players, and the prices will drop

just get a PS3, it loads up movies faster, blu-ray remote.
I have 40 GB unit, and Xbox HD-DVD add on, and I hate the soft button remote the Xbox add on includes.
the Sony Blu-Ray remote for PS3 is flawless and works excellent.

my bro has a 80gb ps3. works great for him, he's big on quality so you know it's going to be good. he also says it's best you get a ps3 if your going to get blu-ray.

not to mention ps3 is supposedly a top quality upconverting (i think that's what it's called) DVD player.

x6 on the PS3... you can play blu-ray, DVD, ps games, do all other kinds of shit with it, AND it's cheaper than a blu-ray player.

From what my roommate told me is that blue ray players should have the ability to download new updates and for now the only blue ray player that can download the new software is the PS3. Plus for the price of just a blue ray player is usualy just as expencive as a PS3 .
get a PS3

Prices on Blu-Ray players are not going to go up. The market is going to get more competitive now than it was previously. With more players being announced, the units will be more competitive and ultimately prices will drop.
Look for Blu-Ray players to hit $249-$299 by the Summer.
Also, the suggestion that current Blu-Ray players are not updatable is false. Some are stuck with Profile 1.0, but there are players on the market that are profile 1.1 and have ethernet ports (Samsung has a model available now, and more planned) that are upgradable.
My suggestion is to get a PS3 if you absolutely want to grab one soon. If it's not something that's important to you, ride it out, stand alone players will drop by the summer, and you will probably see some Profile 2.0 players hitting, which would enable BD-Live.
For the record, there are already Profile 1.1, which would enable you to see all content. The only thing BD-Live (which no studio has announced support for yet) will offer you is Web Content and trailers / previews and maybe (doubtful) extras not on the disc.

well i was looking at this blu-ray player simply b/c it matches the Samsung tv i just bought earlier this month.
Amazon.com: Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-ray Disc Player: Electronics
i dont really want a playstation3 b/c i honestly dont play video games very often and that part of the playstation would be a waste to me. i have a Wii and a good friend who i play xbox live with when i need to get my video game fix lol

Well, I understand that, but MY personal recommendation, is that you buy a PS3. If you've got the extra $80, do it. I'm just giving you my recommendation from a PQ and feature set point of view.
The BDP1200 is a great player, and will offer a lot of functionality and amazing PQ, but the PS3 simply has room for more features and more room for upgrade, as well as sure support for BD Live.
Just my suggestion though. There's nothing wrong with buying a PS3 for a Blu-Ray player. Thousands have done it
