U.S. Government Starts Investigation into Blu-ray Patent
U.S. Government Starts Investigation into Blu-ray Patent
A complaint filed by Gertrude Neumark Rothschild has prompted the U.S. International Trade Commission to commence an investigation into Blu-ray and other products that contain short-wavelength light emitting diodes.Posted by James Brightman on Friday, March 21, 2008
Blu-ray may have won the high definition movie format war, but it could potentially have another battle on its hands (so to speak). It seems the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted to investigate certain short-wavelength light emitting diodes, laser diodes, and products containing these components such as Blu-ray players.
"The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Gertrude Neumark Rothschild of Hartsdale, NY, on February 20, 2008. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States of certain short-wavelength light emitting diodes, laser diodes, and products containing same that infringe a patent owned by Rothschild. The complainant requests that the ITC issue exclusion orders and cease and desist orders," explains the ITC.
30 different companies were listed as respondents, including Blu-ray player manufacturers such as Sony Corporation, Samsung Group, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., LG Electronics, Pioneer Corporation and others.
The ITC noted that they have simply started an investigation and have "not yet made any decision on the merits of the case." The next step is for an evidentiary hearing to be scheduled and the Honorable Paul J. Luckern will then make an initial determination (subject to review by the Commission) as to whether there is a violation of section 337.

Then GTFO.
I hate when people say "I hate the United States."
No one is holding you here, go somewhere else, then realize how fucking sweet the U.S. really is, and we will consider taking you back.

I think you forget I'm in the United States Army. I volunteered to defend your right to speak freely if need be.
I hate when lazy ass people squat on patents to milk companies for money. It's pathetic. I hate that our government supports this kind of behavior, the law is obviously out dated. If you are not actively pursuing the technology and selling it / marketing it to other companies, your patent should be void and null. That's my stand.

I was a hair away from doing ROTC for college, and believe me, if there was ever a draft, I would be the first in line to volunteer, probably marines.
I'm very proud to be part of this country, so I get a little defensive when people bad mouth us. Don't worry, I picked up on the irony in your post, figured you weren't serious.
I agree with you though. There are way to many ridiculous lawsuits these days, it's disgusting.

Dude, this may sound pussy as hell, but the biggest reason I don't want to go to Iraq is because of the damn Camel spiders! Have you seen those damn things?

I just find it shameful that our legal system supports patent squatters.
I see no reason for a government to actively support someone who has done nothing more than file a patent that is an 'idea'. This isn't the first time this woman has done this. It's quite clear she's hutning for money at any chance she can. Why file a patent nearly 1 and 1/2 years after a product has made it's debut? Money. Sickening.
As for Iraq, believe me, the only thing anyone should be afraid of is IED's.

I completely agree.
"As for Iraq, believe me, the only thing anyone should be afraid of is IED's."
Oh, and those too. Seriously though, have you seen those damn spiders? They make me scream like a small school girl.

just because someone complains about the US doesn't mean they hate it dude, i fucking hate how americans are by far the most sue-happy people in the world
i went on vacation to japan a few years back and we went to their "expo-center", it's like a six-flags basically. i did their go-cart ride. HOLY SHIT they were fast. not the typical 3hp lawn mower engine go-carts we have here, im talking these things would probably do 60+ had they not been govern'd. we'd have to have a fucking NOVEL of a release form to be able to ride something like that because idiots would get themselves hurt and sue the company.
i hate alot of shit that goes on in the states but i live here by choice
