Upstage issues???
well, i switched over from nextel to sprint a few days ago, and i went with the upstage. conceptually, the phone is great.. phone, mp3/media player all in one, i like it.
very strange issue though, with my older nextel phone (i had the i850) mostof the time i would have some decent service at home which was 2-3 bars so i could have a conversation without the call being lost or dropping out most of the time.
with the upstage, it is either searching for service, it finds service but it is a joke since the signal is not strong enough to make or recieve a call, or it will occasionally go into roam where it would be at 3 bars for a few seconds, maybe a minute which is a fucking tease.
a firend of mine was over last night who has the palm treo, also on sprint. he was talking on his phone no problem, texting, and had 3 bars of service, which leads me to believe that the upstage has crapy reception as a phone.
outside of my area of residence, it is decent, but ive always had some issues here since i do live in a hilly area, but this is horrible. any ideas/suggestions?? i almost want to just switch back to nextel.

i hardly used that, most of my friends switched over to sprint, so yeah, that was that. it seems that only this phone is problematic here. my friend was over with his palm treo, also on sprint and he had good reception. i guess the upstage is not up to par when it comes to reception.

I told you in the rep whore thread about the shitty reception =p
I had the upstage for 99% of one month, then returned it for the M610.

When I first got to sprint I had the Sanyo Katana. It was a great phone, the only thing that I didn't like about it was it had no mp3 or music on it. So I traded that phone for the upstage. At first the upstage was really "cool" a lot of people seem to like it. I had lots of compliments about my phone on how cool it was. It was a cool phone after all. A phone on one side and an mp3 player on the other side right? Having a cool phone won't do you jack if the phone suck. I am sure you know this already but the phone is crapy. The reception SUCK on it. With my katana I had full bar at my house. With the upstage I had 1-2 bar. I notice MANY area in the city where there was no receitpion and I never had this problem with the katana. Besides the shitty reception, the phone is a pain in the ass to use for anything but to make a phone call. You have the flip the one like 3 times just to take a picture. Also the touch slider thing didn't work as well as it should. I adjust the level on the slider but still pointless.
The problem is the phone, not the service. I have the razr v3m now and very happy with it. Great reception and no dead spot yet. I hate the stupid samsung upstage. Worst phone I ever owned.
The only thing good about it is the battery life with the battery case is AMAZING. I went almost 2 weeks without having to charge the phone. Talking 10-20 min each day or so.

i hear you on all this.. i mean, i get good reception everywhere but my home, im in a hilly area with alot of trees and shit, so that doesnt help any. i like the phone, and the fact that it has an mp3 player, so i dont have to go out and buy an ipod now for when im at the gym..
as an update i went to a sprint store yesterday, and i had a talk with the manager. he was very nice and agreed to switch out the phone for me for the same one. this new one seems to be a little bit better at least, so ill stick with it for a few days and see how it does. when i am at home and i set the phone to "roaming only" it has a constant 3 bars which is fine to hold a conversation. when it is set to "automatic" while i am at home it keeps jumping from the sprint network to roaming, to searching for service which happens like every 30 seconds or minute. that i cannot deal with, and calls cannot be made, recieved, and are dropped, so ill just set it to "roaming only" while i am at home since there is no charge for roaming and it is included with my plan anyway. if this doesnt work out ill try to get the m1 or the 610 (other flip phone).. but ill see how this works out for now.

When you set the phone to "roaming only" is the phone on roaming? Does it say roaming on the phone? If so you will be paying for roaming charge.
I would just get ride of the phone all together. If you want an mp3 phone, the razr v3m also has an mp3 player on it and it has a lot better reception than the upstage. I also bought that phone because of the mp3 function on it. But after trying to use it for mp3, it kinda suck. One thing that I really hate about the mp3 part when you turn on the mp3 player, the phone has to load up ALL of the songs before it can play. I have a 1GB micro card in there and it took about 30 sec to load up all the songs.
Again, I would just get ride of that phone.
LG also has an mp3 phone like the samsung called the LG Fusic. I would check that out too.
