im currently choosing among the hundreds or thousand of dvd players around and i cant decide which one to buy. basically what i want is a player that plays dvdr cd's, cdr, mp3 and other stuff. what kind do u have>? and what do u suggest for those kinds of format i mentioned above? thanks
I've got an old school sony and a cheap region-unlocked apex. Plan to replace the sony with a pioneer elite sometime in the not so distant future. The newer model elites can be had for $400-$600.
Mods: Sony Xplod MEX-5DI | Pioneer 6½" TS-A1667 all around | Rockford Fosgate Punch 360.2 mono amp | Rockford Fosgate Punch 500x 4-channel amp | Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" HE² in a ported Q box | Clear corners w/ blue lights | EBC "Greenstuf
Most if not all of the DVD plaers will play the formats you are looking to play. You really shouldn't have to pay more than $100 for a good DVD player unless you're getting one to match your reciever or other components.
I have an Onkyo 6-disc dvd changer that matches my reciever. Costs a little over $250.

Pioneer on one TV, use the PS2 as a DVD player on the other (well... now it's attached to my PC's monitor w/ the help of a ViewSonic N6 video processor).
I bought it because it was cheap & has a 3 year warranty. & a bonus, which I found when I unpackaged it at home, is that it can be setup to Region 0, which means you can play any DVD from any region you so desire.
The bad thing about it, is that the player makes some crazy buzzing/vibration noise with certain DVD's during the first couple of chapters. I really only notice it with rental discs, as all the ones I own don't create this "problem". I may take it back one of these days.

XBOX , with hd monster cable. Gives you optical out , plays every audio format , dont have to swap around or have lots of cables , video quality looks as good as I have seen.
I also have a simple sony silver for VCD / SVCD & other weird DVD-R files that my xbox cant play , allthough I did finally find a DVD-R that works great with my xbox.

We always used the XBox or PS2, but had problems with the DVD's we'd burned. My BF bought me a toshiba to go with my TV. I haven't had any problems with it.
For some reason my PS2 has probs w/ non-professionally made DVD's.
For example maybe one outta every three fansub animes won't play. Also some "all regions" DVD's from asia won't play either. But they'll play on my Pioneer... Kinda strange. Sometimes I'll get the menu and soundtrack w/ play but no picture.
It's not a big deal, but it's inconvienient at times.
