Not bad Mike but I disagree on one thing Hollow Cat 2-5 HP if you hollow out the cat you make a spot in your exhaust system that is bigger then the rest that disrupts the exhaust pulse reducing velocity. This will give you a loss in HP and torque.

Its a restriction , removing the honeycomb material allows major flow. Trust me this makes power , a test pipe will make more power....but it works the same.

Will it’s just a theory on my behalf but I base it on a bunch of threads we had a few weeks ago about gutting cats and if I remember right almost all of them lost power. I have never done it hell I done even run a cat at all.

And it's a correct theory. The last thing you want in an automotive exhaust system, especially at a point near the collector, is an expansion chamber allowing the gasses to lose velocity. And I'll go ahead and mention that its illegal to purposefully disable a federally mandated emmisions control device. Substantial fines are in your future if you're caught.
Also, who put those power totals up at the right? The listed mods and their relative power gains are not purely cummulative. 30hp for $1200 on the simple plan??? C'mon.

Well It wasnt just my head playing games with me, I lost some low-end probably from the bad scavenging , but my mid and high end became explosive after removing the cat. My friend did it with a stock GSR and added just a filter and pulled like a 14.7....
Thats pretty dang good for free. My .02.

I steady exhaust flow with high velocity is what’s needed in the exhaust system to achieve this you need at little modulation in size and as strait of a pipe as you can get. By gutting the Cat you are creating a section that is bigger than the rest this disrupts the velocity in effect slowing the exhaust pulse. Creating a loss in power
Now if you where to see any gains it should be in the high RPM range but in almost all cases I have seen a loss in power resulting in slower times. The over all best way to go is to get a high flow Cat.
Man I hope me thinking about losing my staff status is all I my head

no offense but "butt" dynos are useless. Back it up with Dyno or before and after results on a drag strip. The theory holds true.

I got lower times , 1mph. Just from one mod. It wasnt just my butt , also any other taunts to my precious butt dyno will result in a drive by fruiting..... j/k.
Seriously though guys , the honeycomb is too thick on a cat , there is no way youll loose power , besides is it not already that big in diameter , just because its stuff with gold strips and thick honeycomb doesnt mean youll loose power.....something to think about.

Im thinking gutting the cat will reduce back pressure on the low-end , but flow more on top... My two cents! Great website by the way... Keep up the good work!
just out of curiosity has any dynoed a hallowed out cat? and how accurate are dynos would they beable to detect these small gains that we talk about or could they just be variations in runs

The question is:
What will cause more turbulance ?? Removing the ceramic material from the Cat does not increase the ID of it. It may increase the volume of it, but not the overall diameter, therfore in it's stock form it does infact function as an expantion chamber. The exhaust gas velocity has already slowed considerably and has cooled considerably resulting in a more dense charge. In other words you do not need as large of a piping. IMO there is no way that the little exhaust gas turbulance would supersede the resistance in flow of a stock Cat. Gutting the Cat IS in fact free HP. Obviously, if you live in an area where emissions is required this wouldn't be the mod for you. For those of you who feel that it is "right" to gut a Cat because of pollutants, take a look at the Rigs on the highways. They put out twice what our cars do in a year with one shift.
