There is alot of talk about simple green and its strength. Over on t-i.net simple green has been known to eat away at aluminum surfaces. So it may work wonders, but from personal experience. It ate away at the concrete in my garage.

Damn!! I used it on one of my cars twice and haven't had a problem with it..Of course I don't use alot and I sure as hell dont let it sit on there long. Maybe it ate away at your floor because it sat there for an extended period of time

Cleaned my engine bay with Simple Green.

Im looking into a new brand of the simple green products. Either way a more industrial brand engine cleaner would probably do much more damage. Also how long were these people who had detoriation leaving it on.

My 12+ year old engine bay has had no problems...oh well.

Did you wet the motor first, and then spray it on? How long do you let it sit for?

I don't quite know why but the underside of my hood and my firewall was coated black with grime. Simple green made it melt. :evil

Simple Green is pretty good stuff, for being natural and all.
Just remember to rinse any aluminum VERY well afterwards.
Aluminum + Simple Green / water + extended time period = Unhappy aluminum.

Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green/Crystal Simple Green residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

Ooo. I'll try it. I used it to clean a central air conditioner. Never thought of cleaning an engine bay.
