I used Simple Green to clean my engine bay today. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked with the results. I just sprayed it all over (without diluting) then a couple mins later washed it off and dryed.

Quote:
What are the main things to stay away from when cleaning your engine bay? Distributor, Spark Plug wires, Alternator, anything esle?
I just covered up the distributor and alternator with an plastic bag. Although while I was washing the bay the bag to the alternator came off and was exposed to water, nothing happened and everthings coo.

Want to buy in bulk , goto sams they have a spray bottle and huge container for cheap. Will last you forever.

Or you can get it at pretty much any grocery store or target type store.

I say put plastic bags over the distributor and alternator and fuse box.

Those put off toxic fumes. Simple green cleans just as good without you having to wear a mask.

The exhaust manifold is pretty much cast iron, but the head and block are entirely aluminum.
The distributor is the thing where the spark plug wires come out of. The distributor is behind the engine on the driver's side and has a belt attatched to it.

thanks charliemopps24

to bad its aluminum i assume that they are anodized aluminum?
Extra was discontinued
"Last I heard this product was discontinued. There may still be product in the pipeline so to speak so you may still be able to find it in stores and online.

While it works really well, it can stain or dull anodized aluminum and polished aluminum and because a lot of engine components have this kind of surface it has caused enough problems to warrant discontinuing."
