Type 2 coolant is not as good as the green stuff. The green stuff can actually repair damage, from what I hear, since it contains something the blue stuff does not. You would have to look it up. The only reason it's being standardized is because Honda knows most people will not change their coolant religiously. The blue stuff never needs to be changed.
$16 per gallon is B/S because you can get non-dilluted Prestone Low-Tox (green stuff) for $7 per gallon. Mix it 50/50 with $1/gallon distilled water, and you get two gallons for $8.

I called HONDA and got the price from them. I think its kinda high since the "green stuff" is cheaper. but if what you say about it never needed to be changed is true, then I say pay the $16/gal and be done with it.
I always got ADV non-diluted for $1/gal. but when I get a car I will do this DIY and get the HONDA blue.
Besides. I have seen people spend ALOT more on DIY's that are not near as nice looking.

It is a very bad idea, as well as counter-intuitive. What's the point of buying coolant that lasts forever when your radiator hose will go after a month? Furthermore, you're spending 4x as much money on the coolant when it does not protect your engine as well as the green stuff.

We are talking about clear hoses. Someone posted a thread a while back about this same DIY Home Depot mod. He said one of the hoses turned brown and came loose after one month. If this surprises you in any way, then you obviously have no clue why a radiator hose is made of high temperature heavy duty rubber reinforced with fabric. No offense, but using clear plastic hoses with expensive everlasting coolant is plain stupid.

I am the one who did this. The hose slipped off, but I think I didn't tighten it enough. The hose discolored a little bit, got a little hazy. I couldn't tell this until I drained the coolant out of the car. I may try this again soon. I really liked the way it looked adn held up.
Blue would be kinda cool, but not for the price of that stuff. Your going to blow a hose one day, it's a matter of statistics. Maybe not for a few days/years/ect... but it WILL happen eventually.
