DIY black housings

I saw a set of JDM headlamps w/the black housings on the internet for like 700 bucks. WTF ever. NE1 have a DIY? Ever done it before? I mean, I could give two shits if it's official JDM, I just want the black housing. I've got these halo projectors on already, but how difficult (if possible) is it to take the headlamp assembly apart and make parts of the housing black? little help...

To take the housing apart you just have to throw it in the oven and warm it up. Then use fish tank sealant to reseal it when done.

I'd tell you to "Search", but it's been disabled...

I guess you could turn the pages back until you find it... But there should have been at least one DIY on how to do that. Maybe in this section, or the Civic Non-Tech section,.

I leafed through DIY but there's nothing in there. And I dunno if a civic DIY would help me that much since it's an accord. I've looked around on a few other boards and I think I got the basic idea. I might just be too lazy to do it though...lol

It's the same process as the Civic headlights. I've done both Civic and Accord headlights, it's the same... It was a 98 Accord Coupe I did though.

so just heat em up to 325 and pry the housings apart. Do what I gotta do, and use a little silicon to seal them back. right? Do I need to sand/alcohol prep or anything before I paint the inside of the housing?

No do not heat it up that high.
When I did my prelude headlights, I had it on 125 degrees in the oven and it melted the glue fine, without melting the plastic part.

It looks pretty nice to me, but you cant see shit at night. Unless you get a set of HIDs for it.

It looks like this in the end

DO NOT paint like that guy painted his prelude lights lol

basically just mask off all the 'non reflector' areas and use 3 good coats of adhesive promotor...you don't even have to sand down the chrome (since this is an enclosed surface and wont be subjected to stone chips/etc)

then start spraying with some high temp flat black paint

I did mines with 4 coats

Oh yes...I heated my headlights 225 degrees 10 minutes at a time...and I know several other people who did it at this temp

no problems...took about 2 good bakes to open them up initially, but when you're separating the housing from the glass, make sure to use a flathead screwdriver with a towel over the end so you don't chip or break off the glass

use caution and don't overforce the issue

it should be cake

here's how they turned out on my 4th gen

Well no wonder you can't see shit you painted the entire light housing black you should of left some of the chrome reflector to provide enough light, i would redo it, take some paint thinner to it so you can see @ night! That looks dangerous

put the headlights in the oven.

heat until the headlight seal will come apart.

paint the inside chrome part of the headlight (not the lenses )

re-seal.

done.
