Seafoam goes into the vacuum line and into your gas tank. As for gas additives I used to believe they did something, I've read alot of stuff that says just the opposite. One for example, Lucas oil, I read that it actually causes that oil to foam up and doesn't lube anything. Most oils already have cleaners and additives in it. It's a sense of false security, if you want your motor oil to be cleaner Do oil changes earlier then 3k, changes plugs and flush the motor in the fall and in the spring. Basic maintainance will keep the motor clean. If you drive hard all of the time that doesn't help either.
johnnyboy, before you go telling someone to do their homework, i highly suggest you quit being so damn naive about what something says on a bottle. Bottles claim to do this and that and work magical wonders on your car, but yet when you actually do something to it, nothing happens. Its called false advertising. I think some people would actually like to be advised of warnings and such before doing something to their car they dont know about. SO quit being naive. It might be safe to put in a crankcase, who knows until he actually does it, but its good to look at all warnings before doing something that could cost you a shit load of money.
you can put seafoam in 3 places...in a vacume line, crank case and gas tank.
Ive done them all, vacume line is the best lol cause it burns up any carbon deposites in the head and valves and putt out huge amounts of smoke.
Crank case breaks up everything else in the motor, but u can't roll too long with seafoam in the crankcase cause it breaks down oil quickly so only for a little bit.
gas tank to clean the system.
the only drawback to letting the motor ingest seafoam is that the deposits can gum up plugs and O2 sensor pretty quickly so have an extra set around to replace them if they do. I fortunetly had a little hickup where it got onto my O2 and pulled a check code... a little sprited driving to dislodge whatever was on there and a ecu reset cured that problem.
Just sea foamed a 2001 Accord 4Cyl Vtec and was able to get 515 miles off the next tank of gas. This car did not run this good whne I bought it! Does foul out spark plugs though so by a set to install after and remember to change your oil.
I did the Sea-Foam in my vacume lines.
Reved it so it woulden't stall.
Then let it suck up most of the bottle.
Turned the engine off and let it soak for 5-10 min.
started it back up.
The care smoked like hell.
For a while. I just walked away.
15 min later barley a whisp.
Ran it for 2 weeks then the check engine light came on.
I checked the code and it was the O2 sensior.
I think it did foul up the sessior but it eventialy burns off.
Now no codes. I have done nothing to the engine except check the oil.
I'm glad that my combustuin chamber is cleaner.
As well as the manafold, header, valves, and injectors.
All I needed was a set of plyers.
It beats taking off the hole head (days work easy)
yeah, you can get it at advance auto parts and other places. on the bottle it says oxygen sensor safe, but you could take it out just in case. i picked up a bottle a few days ago and plan to try it out soon.
Mods: Exhaust, Intake, lights as of now... hoping on turbo soon!
is sea foam harmful to painted surfaces, such as valves covers? I'm in a middle of a head job and I wanna clean my head and valve cover before I put it back togther...
