ok well we all want to paint our cars for one reason or another, fix rust, that show car look, get rid of oxidation, bring a new life to your ride or even an attempt for a quick flip to make some cash off a car.
this is my virgin paint job so im probly as nervous as you are but fallow my steps and you will be FINE! first thing is remeber if you fuck up just sad and re shoot its time and some money but its not a big deal!
get all of you materials ready!! you will need roughly 300 dollars to do a decent paint job
your gonna need varius scuff pars and sand paper in varius grits from 400-1600 make sure its wet and dry
next up is some primer this one isnt very important just a quality name brand primer thats high build to fill in as much imperfection as it can
base coat, i like dupont readily available and pretty cheap, mine is of the flamenco black pearl verity

know your paint code mine is nh592. also the proper reducer/activator you need as stated on the can
for the clear get the same company as your base is what I recommend, this is simply Duponts product from 6 months ago relabeled and sold for 1/2 as much haha. get the proper activator and if you are painting poly bumpers get a flex agent and use it ONLY in the clear
you will need buffing compounds to get that good shine! along with the recommended pads
for my project the only really bad part for me was the bumpers and front fenders the rest of the car can be fixed by buffing, so first step is to break the car down

remove anything you want to paint including any trim ect ect.
tehn start to sand down and scuff up all areas to be painted make it as smooth and flat as you can going up to about 600 grit or even more if you have time
Fill in any small pinholes or any other areas that are slightly warped with spot/glazzing putty or bondo, DO NOT USE OVER 1/8" thick , IMO even thats alot
I decided to smooth out the portion where my li joins the bumper to make it look one piece i used some epoxy for bumper repair it seems to have worked well, this is how it first looked
after filling everything with putty or bondo that needed it sand it smooth I went to 1400 wet sand before i hit it all with primer get it as smooth as you can
make sure to wash it down with soapy water, rinse with clean water, then wipe with a tack clutch to 100% get rid of all of the dust.
ow for the fun part begin to shoot some primer!!
primer is really hard to screw up and easy to fix so this is where you want to get your practice in!! my Friend Damir has painted many cars DIY style and he has decided to come over to help me he also brought over a few guns. gun choice isnt very important just keep them clean and in tight working order also use a filter in all of your lines

he has a HVLP gun along with the old school suction guns which work very well and are easy to keep stable in your hand. after the first coat of primer you will notice things much more! sand and use more putty as necessary then simply reshoot some primer its dry enough to sand in 30 min so fixes are quick
From there you simply let it all dry very well Im letting mine sit over night until the next session where we will be wetsanding the primer making sure its all 100% ready then we will shoot base/clear. little preview
