Talking Project: "Never Painted Before"

Well I bought a orbital palm sander today. I started to sand my trunk. Right now I am going to just do my trunk finish painting and everything and see how it turns out. If I feel I can take on the whole project then I will. Sucks though it is my get around car so I'm going to have to paint section by section anyways... I'll post pics as soon as I can grasp a camera!

Good luck with your project, keep us posted...

I've never had any luck with exterior painting, the body work always goes good, but I somehow manage to fuck up the paint...

Hey man piece of advice dont spray your car part by part. If you want to do an all over paint job do the entire car at once. You will run into a lot of mismatching color no matter if u use the same paint. Trust me I paint for a living and do custom work on the side. Painting isn't hard by any means but every time unless your a real professional and trained right your techinque will change resulting in a color differents. It maybe small but its there and looks like crap in the sun. If you plan to paint in a garage use color corrected lighting to ensure proper matching. But just a little piece of advice, good luck and if you need any information let me know.

interesting advice, i used to detail cars, and i can notice alll kinds of variations, however my 94 civic needs a new hood, i was gonna spray it myself with a gravity gun, knowing damn well its not gonna match, but since the current one had a hole and a dent in it, from the previous owner, id take the mismatch over the dent and hole, as far as your advice about technique changing, for sure it will change alot, until you learn how your own personal best way....

yes but this kid has never painted before apparently and he is not a professional or have many years of experience. oh and as for ur car, you want my advice get someone who mixes paint to mix it for u and try to get the paint a "blendable" match and you could try to blend into the tops of the fenders and down the sides some. its a trick all painters use to cover up a freshly painted part, and 9 times out of 10 no one ever notices if you do it right. and on a paint gun if u want quality dont skip out on the cleaning after each time you spray and try to invest in a HVLP, i could give u a list of good gun brands but they maybe more than you want to spend to just spray a hood and never use again lol. i have over 4 grand invested into my spray guns.
