Apexi Neo AFC question

I have an 88 hatch with a mini-me d15-d16y8 head swap. I have an obd-0 Integra computer and Prelude injectors. I am thinking about use the Apexi neo AFC to street tune my car. Quick question though, maybe a dumb question, but I have always had factory vtec "ready" cars, Will the v-afc engage vtec through the unit, or does it just tap-in to a vtec signal that is already present. I have almost everything else figured out for the tune. I am going to use a Motorola pressure sensor also when I tune. I want to stay obd-0, so please, no "just convert to 0bd-1 and use a p28 and obd1 distributor and have it dyno tuned". This is the setup I have chosen, if it will work. I've had an obd2-obd1,Hondata, Sohc vtec y8 w/ 300whp. I want to try something new. Any info would be appreciated.

as a piggy back it alters signals from sensors before they reach the ecu. vtec must be present before it can alter the signal.

Engaging vtec too early is not going to make you more power.
In fact it will make you loose power in your powerband until you reach a point where engaging your high cam point is efficient.
