Unhappy Bosch Oxygen Sensors Compatible?

My 2000 honda accord 2.4 vtec 4 cyl generated a check engine code P1149. I purchased two Bosch oxygen sensors from Pep Boys, part #'s 13075 and 13071 to clear this problem. My check engine light turned on again, but this time the engine code is P1167. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this problem?

thank you in advance.

You need to replace the ECU or better known as the brain/computer. I ordered it today. $650 online or $1,200 at dealer.

how did you come to this conclusion?

You may want to consider getting an OEM replacement sensor from someplace like www.sparkplugs.com . You can also check www.autopartswarehouse.com .

I had the dealer look at the car for one full day. There appears to be a problem with Honda's Engine Control Units (ECU) between 1998 and 2002 that require it to be replaced. Not covered under warrantee of course if more than 8 years old or more than 80K miles. I am currently negotiating with Honda USA to ge the part at a reduced cost but am having no success.

The only place to get it replaced is at the dealer. Why? Because they have the tools needed to reset the computer codes and syn the ECU with the key to start the car. Did yu know that the car has a chip in the key? Otherwise, the car will not start. Leave it to Honda to restrict the consumer from getting their car fixed where they choose!

By the way....you may notice that you car makes a "growling" noise when it is not running, another reason why the ECU needs replacing! My Accord sounds like it is possessed when it makes the noise and it has been doing it for years and the dealer thought I was crazy. I bet they knew exactly what it was but did not want to replace the ECU when it was under warranty......

False Check Engine Code

I believe the P1149 check engine code was generated in error. I removed the Bosch Oxygen Sensors and Installed the original Honda brand that came with the car. I reset the check engine light and everything appears to be fine. Thank you for your help.

ECU

Good luck! When I did that two months later the light came back on and eventually it was the ECU.

WOW? What an experience. Yes we all know newer Honda's came with immobilizer in the key and ECU. Supposingly you can swap it over for a new ECU if you got the correct key and immobilizer to go with it. Only I have not heard of anyone doing this and the cost involved, but I'm positive its possible.

But if you have a code, get the definition of it. Bosch sensors are okay considering some models are actually NTK sensors when pulled out of the box. You just have to be sure to et the actually plug and play one to get a good connection.

Some of the universal ones where you have to solder in the wires will create excessive resistance and not read properly. Which may be the case and cause additional codes to pop up.

But when possible, get NGK/NTK O2 sensors.
