How can I tell if Vtec is engaging?

I picked up a car with a h22a swap and it has all the vtec wiring done but the guy opted to use the usdm prelude vtec ecu. What number would that be, a p13? And how far should it rev before hitting fuel cut? I'm just wanting to make sure everything is working how it should be...thanks

btw I'm reading what he told me and it says that its from a 93+vtec model so revlimiter is where it should be on those models. my question is that is that the same revlimit for the jdm engine also? or does it rev higher than the h22a1 released here in the us?

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

i would not, about 500- 1000 rpm after redline, yes, and no

btw this title is very misleading, if you want to know when v-tec is engaging it should become louder and check wikipedia.org on your engine it will tell you the crossover proly 5000 rpm

Well it says redline should be 7600 rpm...is that false? Because the tach redlines before that. I'm just trying to figure out if that is true and that is the redline, why won't mine rev that high? Sorry for all the questions, I am just very unfamiliar with this stuff. Thanks again

ok well i went over the car more...it seems like it engaging fine, has a usdm p13 ecu...the thing that gets me though is it starts cutting/surging out way up high near redline and it pretty much will only go to 6500 and hit fuelcut. I thought the h22a should rev alot higher than that. very rarely will i get a knock sensor light and when i shut the car off and turn it back on, the light is gone....can anyone suggest what gives?

If you had a vtec guage, you'd know when it was engaging...

7600 is where it red lines, but i've always pulled to 8k (whenever im up there) it will start to bounce in and or around there (+100 or 200rpms).

if i switch at 7600 i drope out of VTEC.

I wonder why mines cutting out at 7k, any ideas? I did check the ecu and it's a usdm p13. everything looks wired up fine so I really don't know where to go from here. I'd appreciate any help I can get

Well in a bizarre twist of things. I filled up my gas this morning on the way to work and took my usual route to get on the freeway. I had to speed up going down the onramp to merge so I nail the gas. Next thing I know the tach fucking rockets north way past 6 and then past 7...all the way close to 8 before I could feel the fuel cutting out. I nearly shit because I didn't do anything different other than go to the old gas station that I used to always fill up at. Maybe their fuel is better or something and the stuff I was putting in prior from a different station wasn't so good, so the engine put itself in a safety mode to prevent detonation. I have no idea but if it works it works...

It could be that something is wrong with the fuel delivery. Dirty fuel injectors, filter, weak pump. Check to see if the injectors need a resistor box like some h22's do. If the wiring and the ecu are fine than something is up in your fuel delivery.
