Trouble Running After T1R Turbo Install

I helped a college buddy install a turbo kit on his Honda Fit this past weekend. All the mechanical stuff went in okay (intercooler, turbo, all piping..etc) and the kit also had larger fuel injectors. It also came with a Greddy eManage Ultimate engine management unit that he had to splice into the engine's ECM harness.

We have got it to the point that the car fires up easily, but runs very rough (missing, not all cylinders) and the plugs get black and sooty and fouled very quickly (seems to be way too rich).

I figured that it has got to be something with the wiring, but does anyone have any idea where to start?

Yea man check the wiring really good and make sure all the spark plug wires are in the right order and on good.

Spark plug wires are in the right location (kinda hard to mess that up on that car based on the loom lengths) although one of the retainer clips is a bit broken. That wouldn't make all 4 cylinders run very rich though and it was like that prior to install and it ran fine.

With the wires...we have checked and re-checked them several times and even made some changes "just in case" such as going from a light blue to dark blue...etc. No more luck. Reading other threads I have noticed that others have had a similar problem and blamed it on the Greddy eManage Ultimate, but never did they give any details on how to fix it.

I recommend getting rid of the Emanage and go with something that is made for the fit.

I'm the guy who owns the Fit referenced here, my buddy and I posted on his account.

I did get it running, somehow the basemap was SO LEAN it wouldn't run. There was a double correction in the airflow adjustment map AND the I/J map. No fuel = no run.

Using a wideband and some correspondance datalogging I've got it dialed in now. I'd love to use another form of management but there isn't one. Hondata has openly refused to even try (save for one S/C kit, and they've been 'working on it' for about 1.5 years), and there are no other options short of an AEM EMS, period.

The E-Manage runs fine, and I've got it set up with no CEL's, no detonation/pinging, and a WOT AFR in the low 12s @ 6psi.

Just thought I'd update this (finally).

Did you get a custom wire harness to run the emanage as a piggy back or did you get the wiring manual from helms for your car and wire it up that way?

There aren't any wiring harnesses available for the L15 ECU as of yet (either extensions or p&p solutions), and I didn't feel like shelling out the coin for a custom piece. My kit came with color-coded scans from the helms manual cross-referenced with the wiring harness guide in the E-Manage manual (with corrections made -- keep reading).

That said, it was still a pain in the a$$. The E-Manage manual is actually WRONG (!!) on a number of the wire colors.

BTW, the harness IS a genuine Greddy unit.

Overall I'm happy with my tuning setup, as short of a complete ECU swap complete w/ custom tune it's the best solution available ATM. The Ultimate is much, MUCH more capable than the E-Manage classic (blue), and since I'm not trying to alter the AFRs in closed loop (off-boost), the stock ECU isn't fighting me for control (save for part-throttle boost situations, where it still aims for 14.7 -- these situations are usually very short-lived and I avoid them by staying out of boost unless I'm ready for full throttle).

The only complaint I had about the whole kit was the Greddy manual's wiring harness. It's pretty obvious where it's wrong. For example, in both ignition and injection pulses each cylinder has a color (red, blue, orange, etc), and a colored stripe indicating input/output. However, the CH4 injection circuit is labelled as PINK (which is actually CH5).

Once it was wired in correctly and running full intercept on MAP, fuel and ign (tps, rpm are monitored), all is running well, and changes made in the EMU are very effective at moving my fuel trims and boost AFRs.
