This is not a replacement for scanning programs such as anti virus/spyware/malware/adaware

Ive used this setup in addition to my security programs and havent had a problem since

First big step is PeerBlock
PeerBlock ? Peerblock Site

Always go for the stable release

I recommend a defrag and ccleaner run before install. as with any other program installation, return your system to stock clocks or 24/7 stable overclocks.

Peerblock comes with several lists that already work quite well.
P2P, Spyware, Advertising, and Education are their default lists

however, these lists are not updated in realtime, and some have fallen from the usefull ranks, due to assholes and spammer **** getting sm,arter, anti-piracy groups using more and more connections and tricks ot bypass blocking programs

iblocklist.com

Here is the extra lists I use. so far, I have NOT edited any of them. they are all block lists

LIST...............ADDRESS
level2.................http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level2
level3.................http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level3
bad peers............http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_templist
primary threats.....http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=ijfqtofzixtwayqovmxn
ipFilterX..............http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=nxs23_ipfilterx
DROP *...............http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=sh_drop
hijacked ip's**.....http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=tbnuqfclfkemqivekikv
Spider***...........http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=spiderNOT VALID TEMPORARILY as of 2/21/10

*= Dont Route Or Peer,

**=these are IPs that have been compromised. Once trusted, but now being used by spammers, hackers, or anti-piracy

***=Large field of IPs. if you get connections blocked that you need, I would edit this list before simply removing it

If you guys need more information or help setting this up, PM me or respond here

I posted this thread in hopes that this can someday attain general knowledge. damn anti-piracy, spammers, advertising, all that stuff can be hit hard or removed from ever being seen on the computer. not only is this a security thing, but it can be advantageous as well, for example, removing the need for plugins on programs. an example is the adblock-plus plugin for firefox. depending on the operating system, FF with that plugin is a memory hog.

I will try to edit this as necessary, and if anyone wants to add to this, you are more then welcome

I take no credit for the creation of these programs or the hard work behind the creation of the proper lists. All the lists I provided are easy to add in peer block by simply clicking the list manager on the left side of the peerblock window when you have it up.

These lists have been tested and editted for general public use and work great

I recommend a defrag before installing because there is always a few spaces here and there, the new files become fragmented by default, and you have to run defrag after anyways

do it before an install : A) makes the install potentially faster B) the program starts faster and C) USUALLY doesnt require a defrag afterwards unless its doing a lot of cleanup after install

and in my tweaks I turn off a lot of automatic tasks and such, the defrag being one of them

why are you posting this in the thread? PM me if you have to keep talking about defragging

??

my defrags take 2-3 minutes

IF you actually take care of your computer

regular defrags keep your harddrive alive.

windows comes packed with a defragmentor
if you have SSD's, never use
but if you have a normal spindle drive you need to do it at the very elast once a month

I use defraggler.

Slight update

teh spider list is unavailable. I am unsure of the reason, will update when I know. says list not found, perhaps they are doing a bit of server relocation,

sometimes ports isnt enoguh.

Unless you know to change your browser port from 80 and then block port 80, you are still vulnerable

my method is I use all these lists, and block HTTP, then slowly add what I think are safe addresses.

If you guys want that short list, it UN blocks addresses for gmail, facebook, superhonda, toyotanation, mininova,, h33t, btjunkie, ebay, mwt, auroroa club of NA, overclock, photobucket, and weather

Imm not promoting pircay or paid programs, though I use both.

jsut making it a freebie.

and if your drive is fragmented before an install, where do you think all the bits and pieces of teh enw files will go? tehn you will have a fuckfest of fragments all over, ratehr tehn oriented at the end of teh drive.

wanna be? never claimed it asshole.
