My son has confirmed that the IACV on his 00 Honda Civic EX is not working and needs to be cleaned or replaced. We're not sure where it is located on this 1.6L D16Y8 MFI GAS SOHC engine - on back of the throttle body (pic attached with maybe2 in the description) or in front and underneath (pic attached with maybe in the description). If it is the 2nd pic, do we need to simply close off the coolant lines or should we drain the radiator? You may need to rotate the pics to orient them properly.

Hello, we confirmed the location of the IAC valve and I think we can clean or replace it ourselves. We had one question before we get started. Can we safely remove this spring (pic attached) in front of the throttle body by taking off the nut in the front and prying away the hook that is attached or would there be a different method to detach the cable that it is hooked to? Thanks in advance for your helpful advice.

Hoping someone will respond with some comment. We cleaned the old IAC but it made no difference, still had the check engine light and the idle problem. Ordered a new one from RockAuto and installed. CEL went away but the idle problem persists. What next? Is there a procedure we missed after installing the new IAC?
