Just for kicks, me and my friend put in Mobil 0W30 sythnetic oil in my last oil change. Feels great, no leaks, haven't burned any, but I was wondering if it was too thin for non-competition use. Anyone have any experience/knowledge about 0w30 oil?
Thanks,

I use Mobil 1 0W40 for the winter season (danish winter = -10C to +10C) and Mobil 1 5W50 (+10 to +30C) for the summer on my 98 ITR.

I have driven approx. 16000 km (from 16000 to 32000) with these oils, and the ITR has not burned/used a single drop of oil in that period.

I know the ITR is "supposed" to use a little, but mine doesn't...not even with this super thin stuff.

Especially during the winter season, the engine sounds better when starting a winter morning and the oil indicator turns off significantly faster after switching to 0W40.

So go ahead and use the thin oil....it works great!

You have to be carful running thin oil like that.

From my understanding. the 0 would equal cold start and the 30 would equal to the thickness once is heats up...So being really thin on COLD START would mean that even the slightest reving could cause damage as the engine oil is not really doing its job.

Well, I too believe that the 0 is an indication of thickness a low temperatures.
The 30-40-50-60 whatever means ability to withstand heat.....not thickness at high temperatures.

I'm not sure though...........

Hmmmmmm i was running Mobil 5w-50, but changed to Factory FEO Type R engine oil, engine revs noticeably quicker, but I don't like the fact that its not synthetic. If only I could find a place in Sydney to buy damn Mobil 1 10w-30:(
