Well I have a grand to spend on a system and I was going to get my box made out of birchwood so it will be light, but what kind of subs and amp should i get? I want 10"s

Do you just want subs, or do you need Subs, an amps, plus a head and components? I'm totally guessing that you want a mix of SPL and SQ? You should post your goals and whatever else you own in your system.

If you just want subs and one amp, I would suggest getting a pair of the IDQD2 V2's from sounddomain for around 400, then get a JBL 600.1 for about 200 from Scala1 on ebay. Wire it all up for about 100 of misc. wires etc, and then buy some Raammat on ebay to keep your car from sounding like a tin can.

I would suggest skipping the birtch, and just using 3/4" MDF. It may be a bit lighter, but the box that you build for the 10"s will be tiny (0.50 cuft each gross), so it really won't be heavy at all.

If you want to go louder, and don't need as much of a trunk, build the medium size ported boxes on the spec sheet. The get loud and give up no SQ at all.

You will get a ton of different opinions, but this is just my $0.02. That would be a cheap way to get great SQ in a small box that still will get pretty loud. If you had more money, I would get a better amp, or save and setup an amp and components for the front.

System

For 1000 dollars no money for install or amp kit I would go with
Blaupunkt Tokoyo deck $180 @ www.nexxon.com
Soundstream Rubicon 555 5 Channel Amp 450 www.nexxon.com
Nakamichi 12" Sub best sq sub takes small box cheap 100 @ www.thezeb.com
6.5" Polk Momo Components ~ 250 or less @ www.ebay.com

Total Cost 980= good sq system 2 channels for rear speakers later

I have that system for sale with 2 JL6W0's everthything new in box except for the deck which was in my car for 2 weeks for $800 if you are interested btw.

I strongly Agree on the IDQ's, but has anyone heard the ID MAX's yet? They are bad!! My next choice in Subs would be two MacDaddy 12's. My friend has a pair and he is hittin 157 Db with them. They are pretty good.
your buddy is not hitting 157 with 2 12" macdaddys if it is in a street car.....
what amp does he have
I dont remember the exact model, but it is two audiobahn amps, around i think 2000 Watts. Dont remember exactly. He does compete with his truck. He has spent about 5,000 on his system. Sounds Great!
idmax sucks u say? ive heard that 2 idqs vs 1 idmax and people say the idmax will beat it with the same wattage.... i.e. 600wrms? anyone?
With the Above statement of they are bad, meaning good. I should have worded that differently. Yes, they are REALLY GOOD! Sorry for the confusion.

hes still not hitting 157... i would say he could pull around 150 depending on install
the world record in street is less than that

Where was the mic located at metering?
Not sure what you mean. He would know what your talkin about, but you have to put it into the "competition dumb" version for me. :D
The mic is the little microphone that measures the SPL inside of the vehicle. Comprende?:D
My guess is that the mic was placed inside the port of the subbox. Or it was corner loaded in the vehicle.

I was a judge for the SlamJam finals three summers ago, and I saw one guy hit 171dB with two eights in the outlaw class. Had the mic installed in this custom port cover.

im just sayn in referance to db drag rules, with the mic on the dash, 157 is a very high #, inless the interior has some mods to it, and u were running audiobahn amp per sub....
I wish i could give you some more info on it, but i am not familiar with how they done it myself. I will ask him and see, but all i know is he has an audiobahn amp going to each MacDaddy 12. He hit 157 at a little small competition a few days ago.
