1st Gen CRX help

Hi! Any 1st gen CRX fellas here? :D

I noticed a plastic plate with 5 holes beneath the stock air filter. Does anyone know the puropse of this plate? I'm just gonna take it out because it seems like I can get better airflow without it.

Anyone have any other mod tips for the 1st Gen? Thanks for any input!

yeah, take it out
and while your at it.. take out the rest of the plastic air ducts from the filter down. you can pull that little 90* elbow piece off if you pull hard enough. if you're ready for dry whether in your area.. then just chop the air box (cut off everything below the filter, but the filter needs to still be able to mount there)

I've got a few 1st gens that's the first thing I did to the Si when I bought it from the chic at copyright, in the parking lot!.. she was like "um... ok?" LOL
Thanks!

What filter do you suggest I use? A cone or a K&N drop in? I'm thinking a drop in with the cut airbox is better because it keeps the heat out.

I recently bought this car. It seems to run pretty good but I want to do a full tune up to prevent any problems. What things should I change/inspect.

And just for my knowledge, what engine swaps are usually done to 1st gen CRX's? Can you do a B16a or ZC like the 2nd gens? Some links to CRX sites would be great!

My clock always resets when I turn on the car. Anyone know what would case that?

Use a K&N. the cone filters are for the cold air intake. Currently, the only company that I know of that sells intakes for the first gen is CM Racing. Lightspeed used to make an intake but they don't exist anymore. the CM Racing intake is 85$ I can get you one if you want, it's a local company and right now they do not have a website (which is hella dumb) But they sponsor my car club so.. give me a ring

Any B-series swap will work with the 1st gen. HAsport makes motor mount adapter kits. Check out the Nov issue of Sport Compact Car Magazine, they have an article on swapping in a B motor. the ZC will bolt in with absolutely NO MODS, because it's the engine that the car came with in Japan. It's the same motor out of the 86-89 integra, so if you can get ahold of one of those, that's your best bet, it's an EASY AS HELL SWAP, should be able to do it in one weekend easily.
CM Racing also makes a strut tower brace for the front - $100

I'm another owner of a 1st Gen Rex.. I've got the same problem as you, but with a few differances. Getting an Integra half-cut isn't terribly difficult, apart from the fact that there aren't too many round here under about $1000 (and thats a complete shitbox :( ). I'd love to get me a B16a, but as the NZ economy sucks ass, the mounting kits alone cost about $1800...

I'm quite interested in the Integra stuff, so I'll probably go down that path, but before I make a decision, I just want to know what you, ol'skoolrex_PH, have done to your CRX to get that much power. Any info would be much appreciated.
Speaking of 1st Gen CRX's which year and model is the sweetest of the bunch?? There is a guy selling an 85 Si for 1200 in my area. Looks sweet! Can anyone post info on these babies??

Thanks :)

Did you say that the zc drops in with no mount or linkage mods. Please post n detail what you have to do to swap the motor.
1200 for an 85 Si is way too much
offer him 900 unless he has some really great stuff

as far as my mods go, well.. here we go!

Mugen intake with Ractive filter
ExtrudeHoned intake
Venom integra injectors
CM Racing custom manufactured ported and polished hemi style racing head
High compression head gasket
Mugen Valves and springs
NGK ingition
DC Sports headers
Ballade Sports exhaust (from back in the day)
Unorthodox racing flywheel
Unorthodox underdrive pulley kit
JG edelbrock cam
Knife Edged crank
Ballanced engine (not blueprinted.. it's not the same thing)

I think that is it as far as engine mods...

i know a guy who is getting a 87 teg dohc motor into his 87 civic si...wat kinda times do they run. I assume it would be a good match for my zc!!
he'll prolly run high 15s

depends on what else is done to the car, tires, intake, weight reduction, clutch, driver skill

Bigger injectors and intake and ehaust, you'll run low to mid 15s
thanks for the reply dude :) now, what about suspension mods? any ideas?
Somebody mentioned that the suspension on the first gen rex's was really shitty.....is this true?? Is there still aftermarket support for the first gens?

Thanks

JesseCrx
suspension?

Tokico illumina struts, eibach springs in the rear
Suspension Techniques front sway bar
OPM Camber adjustment kit
OPM rear panhard bar
CM Racing torsion bars
CM Racing strut bar
The more and more i think about it the more I want an 87 Si :D

I'm a 1st genner

My car is an '84 with an '87 teg drivetrain, '87 CRX Si front and rear bumper covers, the Si interior; I'm trying to make my car resemble the '86-'87 EDM CRX 1.6i-16 model.

hey jessecrx... they make great sleepers!
I've been at a stoplight with a hooked up accord and was laying down revs wanting to race and he was like "whatever!" untill I wasted him! LOL
there is tons of shit for those cars, not much to do for the body, so the sleeper look is kind of a must.. AndysAutoSport makes a body kit though... fairly good looking, their old one was better IMHO
