1st Gen CRX suspension

okay, forgive me if i'm wrong and misinformed, but from what i've heard, the 86-89 integra has a lot of suspension/chassis similarities with the 1st gen crx. my question is, is there a way to get front aftermarket springs? i know there's none available, but why? i've got an 87 'teg zc sitting to be installed with all the other "fun" stuff to fit in the rex. i'm wanting to get the suspension up to the task. another question, is when i upgrade to the integra knuckles/hubs, will there be any fitment problems with the caliper? i read in the scc swap article that 88-91 brakes fit in front, will i still be able to use brake lines, etc from 84-87 crx, or not? i know, lots of ?'s, but i'm worried about getting halfway through and having compatibility problems. not to mention, i haven't even tackled the carb to injection changeover yet.... :p

They are similar. There is a place, I forget the name of it, that sells beefier torsion bars for the front. I put some 21 mm ones in my teg back when I had it. stiffened it up quite a bit :) To lower it all you have to do is turn the 2 nuts under that car. As for the back you should be able to just get some coil-overs.
you turn two nuts to lower the car? weird......
also, what kinda torsion bars did you get? i've thought about getting the fstb/rstb i saw on nopi and maybe the suspension technique sway bars, but eh, if there's something better, i'll spend the money on that. btw, if i were to do the 86-89 integra rear disc brake conversion, do i need to get new brake lines?
the Integra has the exsact same suspension. However the torsion bars for the tegs are alot shorter (about 4 inches) I don't remember which you had, but you can find CRX torsion bars alot easier (if you have a teg just swap over the CRX torsion tube assemblies and drill new holes to bolt them too.

The torsion front suspension is great for some reasons (lower hood line) but sucky for others (harsh ride) dispite the unusual geometry they handle VERY well and I can out manuver most aftermarket equipped integras (with stock wheels!)

OPM has some larger dia torsion bars, they are made by Sway-a-way so you can contact them and they'll hook you up for a little cheeper.

and what's the point of puting integra knuckles on there? there is really no point unless you are installing the whole front discs as well.... then you don't have to worry about caliper fitment because you've got it all there... (also, note that your camber settings will go to shit after you install those knuckles, so head on over to http://www.opmmotorsports.com to get some a camber kit for the rex... as you'll need the intire adjustability just to get it back to normal.

and about doing the rear disc conversion, no don't get new lines. Just make sure you take the lines and the e-brake cable from the teg as well as the rear hubs. (here are step-by-step overview of the intire job that I found usefull while sourcing parts for the conversion, however not very useful for the actual project as this guy is OBVIOUSLY NOT a mechanic) http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/Bars84CRX/myhomepage/CRX.html#CRXDiscBrakeConversion

and get sway bars... it's well known that the best way to improve upon the CRXs handling (first and second gen) is upgraded sway bars... again.. sway-a-way is a GREAT choice... a cheeper alternative would be suspension tech... (plus they are teal! if you're into that!)

oh.. and the hight adjustment.. you can usually get about 1.5-2 inches out of that adjustment bolt... consolt your manual for the specifics, but left for lower, right for higher, just lower it all the way... the best way to lower the torsion bars is to take them out and have the torsion tube machined so that the keyway is cut out and you just rotate one side of the torsion bar into it.. you can lower the car much more that way (make sure you're struts are up to the tast, as the long rods in those first gen struts will bottom out and cause MASSIVE damage (I am NOT exsagerating this) either that or cut the brake cable tab off of there and lower the strut into the knucle a little more.. should give ya about another inch of travle.

ok.. that's all....I think I said enough.... or too much

thanks ol'skool for all the info. that helped quite a bit. about the integra knuckles, though, i thought you had to have them. will the axles fit fine? i was under the impression you had to change out the axles as well with integra units, lol. maybe i need to read over that scc article again.

oops, sorry I missed the part about you swaping in the ZC.... yeah, you'll need those knuckles with the axles. just don't lower the car too much and camber will be about normal bad ( not extreme and not great)

I'll be doing the same thing here pretty soon, only I am having OPM custom make me some hardened knuckles so that the camber won't be too bad.
