Whats up with them?? I thought they were maybe only on the STD's or the 88-89 dx's, but I've seen 91 SI's with them, and 91 DX's with painted ones too, so I was wondering why do some have black bumpers and others are painted.. is there a certian 'code' or some list or somthing of what ones have them??

Im thinking its just the same way with door molding and handles. Since 4th gen's had a molding the whole way around the car, on lower models it wasnt painted I guess.

it could also be that some of those cars had to have their bumpers replaced, and the owners elected to not have them painted for whatever reason. i've seen EG civics running around with black bumpers because the owners just didn't care about getting them painted.

No, I doubt that, I seen alot of 'stock' ones with them on that have never got them replaced.. alot of them
