It wont pass 3200 or it will with bad noises and/or extremely slowly? Is it consistant in how it sounds?

Id say a cap and rotor may help ya, since its rpm related.

Does load have any effect? 1st gear accelerating versus 5th gear for example?

only if you think you installed them incorrectly or damaged them. take off the cap and rotor and look at em. If you notice anything strange get a second opinion from a mechanic. its possible your spark plugs are gapped too big and they run hotter this way, may be burned up a bit.

Just remove one plug. If it looks bad, try another. That one looks bad, get a spark plug gapper and see if the gap is on spec. correct me if im wrong, I believ the gap is .44

when you charge your battery up, have your battery and alternator tested, its free at most parts stores.

Also check the belt for sogns of damage, cracks and/or rutting parts
