Hi, so just this week i bought a 96 civic hx that already has an intake and im lookin to add some more horsepower.. im lookin to add as much as i can for a budget of $400... ive considered puttin a big muffler on or a full 2.25" catback, an airaid throttle body, p-chip and a diff. head like a y8 but not really sure which ones would b most worth it, any advice would be nice thanx

p.s.- y do 96 hx's have 9 more hp than dx's??

The HX is rated at 114hp, the DX is rated at 106. Nitrous of course will add the most power on a budget, but aside from that the best thing you can do with your money is swap the transmission to one from the EX. At that point you will likely be faster than the EX. The trans is a better mod than the Y8 head, at least at this point. The Y8 head with long-geared trans isn't as good as a short-geared trans on a less-hp motor.

Plus you can sell your stock trans and recoup some money. Then do an exhaust like the Apexi World Sport, don't just put some big loud can on there.

an ebay 4-1 header and a custom 2.5" exhaust will be your next best thing. An apexi exhaust and a header cost as much as a zex cam and valvetrain <-- Also another thing that'd help a lot once you're done with bolt ons. Look around on ebaymotors, but don't get their junk, because there's a lot of it on there and no fucking chips, all they do is eat gas. Ask before you decide you want something, don't find out the hard way.
