ABS light?

1465 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  HybridJDMHonda
I finished installing my CAI tonight, and went through the 10-minute idle process, so the ECU could relearn it's info about the car. I don't remember if I disengaged the handbrake before or after starting up the car, but now, the ABS light comes on, and stays on. Are my antilock brakes problematic now, or is it just a misread light? Any methods of fixing this?

put your car in first and do the same thing without the brake on.

By the way, you are disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes to reset the ecu right? I know, may be a dumb question, but I haven't read a WHOLE lot of your posts, and I'm not sure I know where you stand.

Let me know whether it works or not. There's always another solution.
Well, the problem is, I drive an auto, so I can't exactly "put it in first and let it sit" :D

I had my negative battery terminal disconnected the entire time I was installing the intake, so I figured I could just plug it back on when all was finished, and that would be fine.

I ran the car for a little over 10 minutes idle to do the "reset ECU" process, and made sure not to touch the gas pedal.

Could I just try resetting it again? What's that fuse that you pull out? I'd rather do that than get my hands all greasy again getting the damn negative cable off... :p
Fuse is located in the engine bay fuse box. Should be labeled on the cover. I would assume that resetting it again will solve the problem. Be sure the handbrake is off.
It's not like you need the handbrake applied in a automatic anyway.

Hope that works.

I pulled the fuse, left it out for 5 mins, and idled for 10 afterwards... my stereo wasn't reset! So I'm under the impression that I didn't leave the fuse out for long enough or something...

But anyhow, is the ABS light SUPPOSED to be on at all times? I swear I never noticed it before, but it may have been on all the time before i installed the CAI... but I doubt it.
Get this... I pulled the wrong fuse. You know the 40A fuse that's located BENEATH the 7.5 fuse? It's used to power the power windows on mine. I pulled that one, thinking it was the backup. I just now got the actual backup fuse out (7.5) it was pretty tricky to get that sucker loose, since it's so small, and way up at the top of the box. I had to use a flathead and carefully pry the tiny extruded edges of it loose, and then pull it up with my fingers.

I'm gonna leave that sucker out until 3:00 PM, just to be sure it's reset, and then do the whole 10 minute idle process again. Hopefully, this will resolve the ABS light problem.
Okay, just to save people the time/trouble of trying to help me out... I finally figured out what was causing the ABS light to come on. This one was a no-brainer; a simple step I overlooked while reconstructing the front of the car after installing the CAI...

You know how there's a cable coming from the ABS fuse box to the negative battery terminal? I forgot to latch it back down after connecting the negative battery. :p I realized this after consulting my manual, and I found out that the ABS fuse box was RIGHT there by the battery, I had been leaning on it slightly... So, I opened it up to check the fuses, everything looked good. Then, a nice dangling cable with a round metal tip caught my attention, and it was then that I completely realized my mistake.

All is well now!
good job! ;) Glad ya got it fixed.
About your other post about how your radio wasn't reset when ya pulled the fuse. I know ya pulled the wrong one, but if you did pull the right one your radio still wouldn't reset. The fuse only resets the ECU, nothing else. That's why people favor the "fuse pulling" method better. Save time re-setting the stereo everytime.

I wish I had ABS...:(
A few weeks ago I installed a CAI on my brothers EX Accord and the ABS light came on afterwards. We took it to the dealer and he[the mechanic] said the whole ABS unit was 'shot'. I have learned to never listen to the dealer mechanics but my brother said that they guy was right and he was going to pay $900 to pay to get the whole ABS unit replaced. I went out to his car; went over the wires and found that cable you mentioned, hooked it back up; Low and behold that was the problem.
Case and point: dont let the Honda mechanics rip you a new one.
