Hey guys, to make the story short, a girl tried to run a yellow light in her civic hatch but braked last minute and ended up on the walkway and I stoped before the line but still rear ended her. The only damage to her car is a cracked rear bumper, nothing else. I went to a couple of shops and they all quoted me 400-500 cnd for a new bumper/paint/install. But the girls boyfreind is obvioiusly trying to ripp me off, he works at a garage and said it will be 800. I asked him to go around to a couple of other shops just to get a average price but he said no, he said his shop is the best and it must be done at his shop for 800. What are my options? thx.

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. But at least you're all right.

About that girl's bf, don't even listen to him. There's no reason that doesn't go get estimates from other places, because of course they want to get as much money from you as possible. If he won't go around and get other estimates, then you just go and get estimates for yourself. Actually, maybe you should go and get estimates, because since these people are already being all shady, they'll probably try to rip you off any way they can. Trust no one but yourself.

err why to people have stupid kids, and let them to be stupid assholes when they grow up? my suggestion might not be the greatest but you never know.... i say you tell his $800 for a crack in a bumper ass to take that shit through your insurance.. that way they'll have to look at it and tell you it's only a $400 damage and then you can have the choice of paying out of your own pocket or your insurance take care of it. then u can tell that girl's boyfriend to take the bumper and shove it up his ass! i also think she needs some driving lessons!

not to burst anyones bubble but:

was there a police report filed? if yes go through your insurance pay your deductable and if its your first accident and as long as the accident was ruled in your favor (ie. you werent to blame) youll be better of.. because they will send out there adjuster (your ins.) they will evaluate the damage and usually low ball the repair cost. If the repair ends up being more than they estimated then the shop must call your ins. comp. first to ask permission for them to get more money for the repairs. SO this POS BF of hers cant rape you out of pocket..

BUT in her defense if i was hit (which i have been in the past) I would want my car to be taken to the BEST body shop around, no matter how high they are compared to the others . Ultimatly if you were ruled at fault its her decision were she wants to go get her car fixed.. just put yourself in her shoes (not that shes right for trying to overcharge you!) --joe

Yep, it is my fault I totally admit because I was speeding about 10km/hr. She even said when we were talking that "you thought I was gonna run the yellow light huh?" But anyways, I am from Canada so we don't deal with multiple insur. companies. We onlyl have one government run one. I asked around and my insurance can give an estimate without it being recorded but they ussually estimate the maximum/highest amount so I am not too sure if that is the best option. I told the girl that her bf is ripping me off and she denies everything and asked me to meet with her and her bf. I said okay and we should go around asking other shops for estimates as well and shes like, lets just meet up first. Man I hate these bitches and cocky bfs. They are giving me so much shit always calling me up and complaining about this and that. When this is all over I really feel like trashing that guys place up. Oh I gave her my DL and phone number but there was no witnesses nor cops can I use that to my advantage in anyway?
If I knew all this would happen, I wouldn't have given her any personal info and just drive her directly to the nearest shop, get an estiamte and pay her on the spot. And as for my car, my front bumper is all gone, the machanics first thought my frame was bent but they checked further and it wasn't. Any more useful tips? thx.

not technically, because if it was a yellow and she was gonna run then decides to brake and stop in the walkway.. it's mored both their faults.. just think of it as.. if you were him, you would try to figure any solution to not pay the 800 to the stupid bf..

You know where this b/f lives? If I were you, I would get that estimate..... pay as little as possible and settle it. Then go and wreck the s!T out of her car, or her b/f's car one night with your friends.
