I have the two-piece AEM CAI on my 96 dx and I also have the bypass valve installed. Right now i'm very worried because the bypass valve edges are not matching together, sometimes whenever I touch it, I feel a gap in between the outer edges going around.

Should I get the clip from the AEM headquarters coz i'm really worried about something bad might happen to my engine.

Also I took off my black fender well so my aem k&n filter is not covered w/ anything right now. Should i put my fender back or just buy a heat shield that attaches to the filter?

Keep that on!! It's basically the only thing deflecting water from spraying up into that little bay. There's a sentence or two about leaving the fender well on in AEM's CAI instructions.
As for the gap problem, I can't say that I can help you out any on that one. My CAI is one piece, and I don't have a bypass.

take the stupid thing off, and don't drive thou and rivers and you'll be fine, it's only hurting the performace you got the intake for in the first place by causeing air turbulance, remember "air" flows ie. as in liquid, putting extra stuff in the path only causes air turbualnce which hurts air flow not helps

Oh, yes, and please tell us how the AEM Bypass Valve magically seperates water from air. We want a fairy story! PLEASE!!!

I'm sorry to but in here before you reply to blackdeucecoupe's question, clique...

but I wanted to remind SilverBullet that he lives in Florida, and there's not much chance (well, depending on where exactly he lives) that he's gonna be driving in 36" of water. Not just driving in it really, more like having the filter COMPLETELY submerged is what i'm saying.

Are you talking about the black lining underneath the filter??
If not forget what I am about to say!
If so read on......

I don't see why you would want to take that off to begin with. I mean the air is coming through the font bumper. For my 98 LX (I believe the DX is the same) the filter sits even with the front opening but just off to the side. If I were to remove the bottom plastic piece under the filter what kind of benefit will I get? Water and dirt from the road, but that is probably about it. Maybe a little better on the air flow. The main air route is coming through the front opening of the bumper. However, my brother did say on his 95 Accord that he took some plastic box off the bumper that was blocking air to his filter. He said I should have the same thing and that I should remove it as well. I am going to take a look again since I did notice that some stuff is blocking the "view" of the filter that is in the bumper.

Later!

does that thing really work or is it just a stupid rubber piece for 50 bucks
I imagine it works, but who the hell would know :p

I went out and looked at my c/a/i and I don't think I'll be installing the bypass valve. There is plenty of protection around the filter :)

....and the thing that I was talking about blocking the air is on the actual grill. It's the top left vent has some black plastic covering the hole. It's on both sides. I don't know if I am going to cut it out or not. I can hear the c/a/i when I get over 4k on the rpm's and my exhaust is pretty loud inside my car.

He is talking about the air resonator I suppose ... I don't think that you should remove it ... just IMO

I bet you want a fairy story...

I'd rather follow explicit directions from the manufacturer of my intake, than the opinion of some wiseass on a message board.

BCD is right about the BPV. Unfortunatly...that little thing will not stop sprays of water form going down the pipe. It's sole purpose is to stop the injestion of water when the WHOLE filter is SUBMERGED in water. Now tell me, how often does that happen to you?

Not very. It is only another way for AEM to snag a little extra cash off you. As though the damn intake wasn't enough.
If you feel that paying an extra $50 will put you at ease, go for it. It's a placebo if you ask me.

He may be right, but I feel he was just trying to pick a little know-it-all fight. I said the black fender wall kept water from spraying into the area where the CAI's filter is, and he goes on about how the bypass separates water from air, and faeries...
