illegal illegal illegal.
I'm not quite sure how to disconnect it, but I do know that when you do, you lose the use of your speedometer.
Not only do you lose your speedometer. You also lose this thing call VTEC!!! Since VTEC is activated by Engine load, Engine speed, and actually vehicle speed. So if Speedometer no work then no VTEC for you:D
i think if u disconnect ur odometer/spedometer, vtec will still work... why wouldn't it, the engine still runs and the valves are still opening*... please explain more!!!
Because the ECU senses vehicle speed also in order for VTEC to kick in. the VTEC signal senses 3 things, Engine load which means you have to be WOT, Engine speed which is a certain RPM for it to kick in, and Vehicle speed which is a certain speed the car has to be going in order for the VTEC to kick in also. Go ask a Honda Technician and he'll tell you the same if he knows his shit. I mean go ask a real tech.......not a bubba tech who doesn't know his head from his ass. A friend of mine's Prelude's Speedometer stopped working one time and his VTEC also stop working because one of the sensor was faulty which was the speed sensor. RPM sensor, Speed sensor, and Engine Load.....have to be at WOT or Throttle voltage output of 4.5Vs which basically is WOT:)
I've driven in several Vtec equipped cars with their odometers disconnected, and Vtec engaged just fine.

You're talking about the Odometer, I am talking about the Speedometer. two different things. If you really have riden in some who have the speedometer disconnected and VTEC still engages then I have nothing to say, I will believe it when I see it. Of all the VTEC equipped cars who has had their speedometer disconnected, none has had their VTEC work.
I think it would still run without the speedo connnected. I wouldn't know why it wouldn't vtec it....isn't it run off of vaccum lines. besides I can hit vtec without flooring it as well.

there is no way you can hit VTEC without flooring. I don't think thats possible!!! If you can then I would really like to get a ride sometimes and see you engage VTEC without flooring it :)

Not to flame bro but I hit vtec when i hit 5500 rpm's I believe may be a little off and you do not have to hit WOT. I can take it out anyday of the week and do it I can downshift without hitting the gas at all and hit VTEC it's the RPM's not the throttle. That is proof enough what do you drive if you don't mind me asking.
2000 Prelude Type SH

Maybe my car is just weird but I can't seem to hit VTEC without flooring it. Maybe I got the Melon of the Prelude bunch or something. Oh well, its all good.

I hit VTEC when I hit 4700RPM:D

Downshift from 5th when your going about 70 to 4th you should hit it without hitting the gas just try it man it is all in the RPM's not the throttle reading. Cause if that was the case I could hit VTEC at 2000 RPM's :D J/K
yah... i've got vtec at 5k and it's on when i dont floor it...
i have a friend in a 00 Si riding around, as we speak, with the "cluster fuse" pulled out. his car runs fine, no problem. the miles are the same as yesterday and a week ago and so is his Vtec. the worse thing about it is that he has no cluster control at all, no gas, no temp, no speed or rpm. he said he actually drives his car better now, if you don't know you are speeding you tend to slow down, damn maybe i might try it in my lude.

actually you won't be in vtec in 4th...in 3rd gear you would be:)
Just remove the top 2 screws, pop the cluster out and unplug it.

Highly illegal though.

what makes something more illegal than something else?? isn't speeding illegal...just like unplugging your speedo:confused:

Thank you for that correction.:D

So you are saying that killing someone is as bad as jaywalking because they are both illegal? That is an extreme, but maybe you would like to buy a car with an incorrect odometer.
