I heard that by discharing the wastegate into the atmosphere instead of discharging it back into the downpipe will give you a pretty good gain in HP. Is this true? If so, how would you do it?

it wont give you like tons of HP. Supposedly its better. But i dunbno anyone that actually tested it to tell you the truth. If it does make anymore , maybe 3hp if that

It may or may not help free up exhaust flow a tiny bit. It is illegal (emissions) so be careful if you do it. It can also make a bit of noise up front.

I've run both and yes it does give some power open atmosphere because of the missing introduction of the exhaust from the wastegate. if you can handle the awesome sound when the wastegate opens, then go for it.
