Atmospheric vs. Closed-Loop

I heard that by discharing the wastegate into the atmosphere instead of discharging it back into the downpipe will give you a pretty good gain in HP. Is this true? If so, how would you do it?

yes you will gain hp. you will need to run an ext. wastgate then a dump tube usually down to the ground or if you want to get creative put it out through your side bumper. peace.

External wastegate...various sizes and spring types are available for different boost levels.

yea it depends on boost. if ur at low levels id say it doesnt matter. but if ur running higher boost then it'd be better to let it out. too hot.
yeah i'm running 15 lbs...should i be letting it out? im not even sure if it is already letting it out.

You'd probably see a pretty nice power gain running open over closed while boosting 15+ PSI. Check to see if you've got a dump tube running from your manifold/wastegate. If you see one, then you're already running open atmosphere...
damn 15? What's done to it? I can't see your engine lasting.

im also interested in whats done to your motor. also how one can run 15lbs of boost and not know about an ext. gate? which system did you buy or did you piece together a system. i am pieceing together a system along with building my motor at the same time, hopefully in another year or so it will be up and running. peace.
i was reading about the kit i bought...FMAX and saw that they were talking about Atmospheric vs. Closed-Loop in the site...http://www.turbo-kits.com/h22a_prelude_vtec_dyno.html. I'm just curious what Atmospheric vs. Closed-Loop really is.
