I want a tach, for my dx civic so i was planning on putting an autometer tach in front of the temp gauge in the cluster dash. I don't want a monster tac, a 3/3/4" tach is good size right to fit right in front of the temp gauge? where's a good place to buy one for cheap. an autometer tach with a light in the tach so i can see it at night.

yeah dude I got the same one as Nexus242 has on that page, I got through Summit Racing for like 80 bucks.

does this tach light up at night? if not is it hard to read at night in th dark?

yeah man, I wired mine up so that when I turn my lights on, the tach lights up too. and no matter the lights on or off, the shift lite will always come on at where you select it to.

you can turn off the shift light right, casue nexus said that it's bright in the afternoon and amazing at night so it must be bright...

i got a 5 incher tach, but thats not my point here, i just wanted to let you know of a little thing i did with my tach, i made a toggle switch for the light power on my tach. this allows me to turn off the light on and off whenever i want. i believe this is a good setup.

1. sometimes u dont feel like racing and just wanna drive home slowly, turn off the tach

2. more important, when u spot a cop around, especially behind u or next to u, turn it off, so it doesnt attract.

i once had a cop shine his bright ass side light on my tach on the freeway cus he didnt know wtf it was at first, then after like 3 seconds he jus boned out, lol

this toggle switch is easy to make, if anyone doesnt know how and would like to, hit me up!

btw, the shift light still works even tho the light is off, since the shift light and the regualr light is from different power sources

why would you wann turn it on and off? that's pretty much the same as turning on and off your speedo. hmmm and I've never heard of a pig hattin' on a tach. it's not in the least bit illegal. turning off the tach. cuz you wanna drive slow? so you're saying your tach. control how you drive you car? hmmm, now that's weird.

the switch does not turn off the tach, it only turns off the background light on the tach, the needle still funtions, and the shift light still functions. its not like you're turning the entire tach off as if it were no longer there, its just the background light. the light can go on or off at the touch of the switch.

the reason u dont see pigs hating on tachs are cus u aint in cali, we get hated for everything, even clear corners.....

well how do you turn off the shiftlight? I can see a use for it. aybe somedays i just don't want the light flashing as i shift. So stripes enlightne me.

there's a knob on the back of the tach that you turn to make the selected shift point (around what rpm you waqnt the light to come on) so on days or moments you don't want the little light coming on, just turn it so that it's set at a really high rpm you prob wont hit. prob solved.

no no no, my toggle switch does not turn the shift light on and off, they already have a knob on the tach that u can just adjust the redline to 10,000 rpm , which u will never hit, if u dont want the shift light to go on.

my tOggle switch, turns the background light of the tach on and off, but i guess if u hadnt had a tach, u wouldnt know about this light, its basically the light that shines the tach so u can see the needle at night, if u were to turn it off, it would go all black, and u couldnt see the tach anymore, as i stated before, sometimes u jus wanna roll home without getting revved on or if u spot a copper, just turn off the light, so he doesnt pull u over and hassle u for dumb stuff.

I still don't get why the light is such a big deal, it's like not even there to me during the day, it's not some giant neon pulsating Star Wars light sabre shooting out your dash when it comes on, but if it's a big deal about the light, I guess you could do some kinda set up.

dude, u obviously still dont get what my toggle switch does do u? it turns off the background light of the tach, NOT the shift light. if u owned a 5 inch autometer tach, u would know that there is a light that shines on the tach so u can see the needle at all times, that is the light that my toggle switch controls, not the shift light.. if u still dont get it, i wont say anythign more, as i know other people know what im talking about.
