Afriend of mine is going to do a motorswap in his 94 Del Sol SI should he go with a C5 or a B16B I am partial to the B16 B although I am not exactly sure why I think its because it is very JDM even more than the B18 C5. Tells us what you think Thanks

Both are very good engines and both good candidates for a swap. Like JDM_SOL said, it's all in what you want. The B16 is high reving, has good potential for boosting (if you want a good discussion on turbo applications for the b16 vs/ b18 go here: Turbo Tech ) and parts are cheaper and more readily available for it. The B18C5 is just a bad monster with a near 9k red line, 210 hp, close to 140 ft/lbs torque ( I think) and a 10:1 CR. The only problem I see with the B18C5 is it's heafty $4500-$6k price tag.

The B16b is not much cheaper than a C5. The B 16B is a civic type R motor and puts out 185 hp does anyone know how much torque they put out

B16B

guys,
the B16B encorporates a B18C block for the taller deck height. It has a B16A Crank and longer rods to aid in the higher rev range.

A longer rod provides more torque down low due to the longer dwell time at TDC.

Personally either choice would be a good one, and both would be safe for boosting, provided the engine is built properly with forged rods and pistons.

If it were me, i'd go with the B16B as the crank was designed for higher rpm. And if you ever wanted to, you could replace the crank for a B18C crank, since the block is actually a B18C block.

between the two i would take the B18C5, its a better motor and less trouble when it comes time to smog it. but if boost or N2O is in your future then th b18C1 would be the better choice. the C5 and b16b are designed to be NA motors and dont do well with most boost applications.

All these motors were designed to be NA motors. The only Turbo application honda ever production built was the City Turbo engine, and that was a 1.3 litre.

In actual fact, the B16A would be better than the B18 blocks for boosting applications, due to the superior rod/stroke ratio

Another thing, N2O likes high compression engines, and Boost does not.

At the end of he day,
if it's for Boost, (ie B16A)
if its for NA & N2O, Use high displacement / high compression (ie B18C5)
