I have a 94 ls gsr swap and i've been having some problems.

i JUST bought this car about a month ago and ever sense i've got it i've been hearing this whining noise from the engine compartment. To me it sounds like it's coming from the cams or cam gears but i've been told it could be water pump, power steering pump, or alternator. whatever it is it's gotten worse.

another problem is my block seams to be leaking oil right above and to the right of where the tranny meets the motor. i think it might be the vacuum seal but not sure. it makes my rpm's go up and down. Not by much only by 3 or 400 and it doesnt do it all the time. the only time i hear it is if you rev the engine.

Anybody think they could help me?

Is it more of a whine or a squeal? Try tightening you belts. Thats usually what the problem is.

And leaks at the transmission are common. I wouldn't worry too much unless its leaking quite a bit.

ummm leaking oil or gear oil at the tranny. either could be a big deal. and the whine is it only on cold start up or all of the time

Good point. If its gear oil its a problem. Motor oil, not so much unless its dripping. If its surface oil, don't worry too much. If you're worried about it, get it checked out.

whinning?
tranny noise or is it when u hit your brakes.

It's barely leaking. i smelt rotten eggs today. it might be my head gasket.

the whining is coming near the cam gears.

how do i know when they're tight enough?
