ok you have your D series engines which are 1500 or 1600(d15,D16) then you have your B series wich are 1600,1800 and 2000(all DOHC) and you have your F series and H series wich are 2000 and 2200.

there was a great breakdown of honda engine coding system somewhere on the internet i wish i could find again... lets take the B18 for example

like JDM Sol said the B means its a B series
and as you know the 18 means its 1.8L ie 1800cc
then you have another code after, B18B and B18C1, the B or C that follows indicates a major change in the engine design, mainly VTEC but of course plenty other differences between the B18B and B18C1
then sometimes theres a last number, B18C1 and B18C5, the number indicates the number of minor changes in engine design

check out www.darksol.com/swaps.asp it's got MOST of the honda and acura engine codes. (they forgot the preludes). This site has power and weights w/ 1/4mi times

i think some of the info on this website may not be extremely accurate...... (example, they forgot all about the D16Y8 being a SOHC VTEC, and it DAMN sure never got over 30mpg city! and i'm also pretty sure that the redline on a D16Y8 is at 7,200 in a '97 model - if it's not, i gotta BIG problem)
