I just bought the 74GB raptor (8mb) hard drive from best buy for $130 after the $50 instant rebate. This is the older model, the newier model have 16mb and NCQ. I think $130 for this drive is a pretty good deal. I know newegg.com has the newier model for $180 and $30 MIR right now. In a way I dont really wanna mess with the hassle of paying more up front, doing the rebate and wait 5 days for the product to get to my house, and I might not even get the rebate.

When I bought the hard drive, I asked the guy in CS and he said 30 days no restockin fee. When I bought the drive, the lady told me that I have 14 days to return it and 15% restocking fee if I open it.

Store Return Policy

30-day Return Period
We accept returns or exchanges 30 days from the original purchase. Please review the details below.

14-day Return Period
We accept returns or exchanges 14 days from the original purchase on computers, monitors, printers, notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors.

Restocking Fee
Unless defective, a 15% restocking fee will be charged on opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS/navigation and in-car video systems. Unless defective, a restocking fee of 25% will be charged on special order products, including appliances.


Missing Item or Damaged Product Fee
A missing item or damaged product fee will be charged for any product missing the original box, packaging material, contents, accessories and/or manuals (i.e., any product not in "like new" condition).

Return and Exchange Requirements
Your original receipt is required for all returns, exchanges, price matches and warranty repair services. All returns, exchanges and price adjustments must be made in the country of original purchase. For cash purchases over $250 and check purchases over $100, your refund will be issued by check from our corporate office within 14 business days of the return.

Personal Data
Please remove all personal data (e.g., computer or wireless phone data, videotapes) from any returned or exchanged products. Best Buy is not responsible for any personal data left on or in these items.

Nonreturnable Items
These items include labor and/or installation services; consumable items such as phone cards, gift cards, food and drink; or items that are damaged or abused. Opened computer software, movies, music and video games can be exchanged for the identical item but cannot be returned for a refund. Any merchandise missing the original Universal Product Code (UPC) is available for an even exchange only on the identical product.

Any product that is returned without promotional item(s) included with the original transaction (e.g., buy TV, get free DVD player; buy TV, get free gift card; or buy TV, get DVD player for half off) will have the value of the promotional item deducted from the refund amount.

Any product that was purchased when a mail-in rebate was available on the purchase is subject to having the amount of the rebate deducted from the refund amount.

Can someone double check this over for me. I want this drive but I might return it if it is too loud for me and just do a raid 0 setup. I have a silent pc, but dont really want to do raid 0 because I would have to buy the card and put extra drives in my already crampped case.

you shouldnt have a prob returning the harddrive, i recall its 30 day for that, only bcuz its an add-on in which you might not need. i would double check and call another store just to see what they say.

Going by what it says on the reciept I am sure it is 30-day no restocking fee, but I want to double check with you guys first to see if I miss read something. I know I can call them and check, but the answer can be different depending on who picks up the phone.

Also they are closed right now. I have this new toy in my hand, it is really hard not to open it and try it out.

Yeah I'd go with the 30-day returning... Oh man, the horrors of BestBuy :noo

If you remember the name of the guy in CS, you should document what he said over what the cashier said... It'd be better. If not, complain to a manager until you get what you want. That's usually how things fly lol... :bash
